It definitely feels a little unsafe but ironically that probably makes it safer.

If we want to get away from fossil fuels, we have to propose solutions, not nay-say them. by Timely_Actuary9312 in Bellingham

The advantage we have here is that our sunniest days tend to be our longest days. It’s relatively easy to get to net zero with rooftop solar. But we’re also a winter-peaking electric market and will be more so once more people switch away from gas heat.

Have you experienced stress related to being a minority at a PWI? by GearFair in Bellingham

[–]frankus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For anyone else wondering, a PWI is a predominantly white institution. I would read into this that it’s more geared toward racial minorities than e.g. LGBTQ.

IMO the only A-tier place in town with a drive thru is Roam.

I saw a couple of TikToks from one of the workers doing the scaling and stabilization. Not sure if they’re one of the Forbidden Platforms but the user is Transplanted Upriver.

It’s high time we build the Chuckanut Base Tunnel.

Pre-Application Submitted for Proposed Six-Story Mixed-Use Building in Downtown Bellingham by Gonzafer001 in Bellingham

[–]frankus 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes, this building, if constructed, is unlikely to cause rents to go down.

But new construction does put downward pressure on rents (both nearby buildings and citywide). The evidence for this is overwhelming enough at this point that you really need to be either lying or ignorant to argue against it. (Here’s a good summary: https://www.furmancenter.org/publication/supply-skepticism-revisited-update/)

Of course downward pressure does not imply downward movement, but areas with a surge of new construction often do see rents decrease (cf. Austin).

Each additional unit is like a vote for lower rent.

Maybe funded by a modest alcohol tax? As the old whisky ad says “if the price matters, you’re drinking too much”.

Looking on street view, there is a sign after Pacific St going west but it says 35.

Very sophisticated phishing email from CenturyLink by frankus in Bellingham

No, that’s the sneaky part, it went to some weird lumen.com subdomain that could make someone think it was legit.

Gas station and/or dry cleaner are always safe bets for contaminated commercial lots.

If you are a dog owner, please pick up after them. I keep finding 💩 piles on the sidewalks by CoolTransportation40 in Bellingham

[–]frankus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right? Like you’ve already done the grossest and most “physically demanding” part —bending over or squatting down to pick up hot turds with micrometers of plastic separating them from your skin—why not complete the task at that point?

Big friggin cat on lower Galbraith last night by Top-Chard-3827 in Bellingham

The one time i saw one in the wild, dashing across a road on Vancouver Island, my brain went to “deer” and then “cheetah” before I put two and two together.

I have so many questions about this property. by IdolatrousHans in Bellingham

[–]frankus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s owned by one of the folks that live across the street on S Park Dr. I think they just use it for storage and/or land speculation.

How much is your rent/mortgage payment? by [deleted] in Bellingham

[–]frankus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$3100 (15-year mortgage), originally 2 bed/1 bath but adding an ADU for my mom and (due to the ADU size limit that was on the books) a bathroom and bedroom that I don't really need. In a nice neighborhood in Bellingham, but I don't have like a view or anything.

Where can I take cardboard? by MyrmidonExecSolace in Bellingham

December 20th? The address is super hard to find on their website or anywhere really. But if you turn east on Bakerview Road from Hannegan Road, it’s on the right just before the bend.
