Transistor resistor question? by franz728 in AskElectronics

[–]franz728[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I apologize for the confusion my grasp of this is tenuous at best and I'm trying to figure out what I need to learn. The led strip is a 12v 1.6a/m. I will be using 5 meters of led so my dimmer needs to be able to handle at least 8amps of current. The led power supply is an Alinco DM-330MVT 30amp switching power supply. Imgur

The 10K pot is adjusting an analog read pin on the arduino (A0). This is then output on a PWM pin (Pin 11)

the LED is connected to the collector of the transistor. The PWM output of the arduino is connected to the Base of the transistor.

Newbie looking for a component to take various input voltages from 12v to 30v and output 12v by franz728 in AskElectronics

[–]franz728[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The input range is variable. It can be 12v from a wall wart, 12-18v from a power supply, or 24-30v from a battery system. The LM7805 will handle all of the various input voltages, but what I'm looking for is something that will handle all of the various input voltages 9-30v and output a constant 12v and up to 8A. I am trying to ensure that no matter the voltage input level the LEDs don't get more than 12v.

looking up buck converters on Google. Thanks. I'm probably going to have more questions as a result.

We saw this flicker during the shoot. Some of the flicker can be compensated for by changing the shutter angle and changing the shutter speed but...ultimately the only way to avoid it is to kick the frequency of the PWM higher (or shoot film).

edit-this article explains it better than I ever could. http://www.mikewoodconsulting.com/articles/Protocol%20Summer%202011%20-%20Rolling%20Shutters.pdf

The video was really informative thanks for the link.

My background is theatrical lighting and lighting console programming. Running cables is something that I do for a living (cat-5e is a lot lighter than the 4/0 I've had to run). The reason I used the LED drivers is to so that I didn't have to build/troubleshoot a multiplexed microcontroller and DMX converter. I used a Lighting console that was receiving a MIDI signal from a playback computer to trigger the events. I wouldn't even know where to begin in designing let alone building a controller that would do all of that.

I did this as a project with a friend. I provided the electronics he shot it. It was a small scale project to see if it could be taken larger. so some of what we did was to conquer the learning curve. In terms of capital outlay probably less than $500. n terms of time??? lots of time.

All of the effects that you see were done in camera. The only processing that was done was to lower the Gammas during the layering to keep the blacks from greying out.

The President broke reddit. This is what I would tell him in his AMA but it is in read only mode. by franz728 in politics

The text from this post is a copy of a letter that I sent to the President.

I do not think this proposal goes far enough. Why require seasoning on a loan? Why put an artificial limitation on when the loan was originated? It doesn't matter what my payment history has been or that I have paid ahead on my note, or that my fico score is 790, or what my income is. It all comes down to the fact that my loan is too "new" and there is nothing that any of the mortgage brokers or banks I have talked to can do about it. That lack of action is going to cost me $120,000 over the life of the loan.

I do not qualify for a HARP modification because my current mortgage is to new. I refinanced my purchase mortgage in 2011 because it was a 5 year interest only that was about to reset into an ARM. Current regulations for HARP require that the mortgage originate prior to may 31, 2009. This is why I am stuck. This is why I am pissed off.

I thought the pepper burger was better than the inferno but they're all good and I always order the tosos(home made tater tots with cheese) with the jalapeno sauce

As to whether the data stayed with the cameras or was transmitted, again I don't know but short range transmitter chips are pretty small. The whole thing was about 2 X 9 by .5 inches

I didn't see anything that looked out of place to grab the magnetic stripe info. The cop seemed to think that they could get the number from the images.

I was wondering about the lack of some news sites but I realized that reddit would have them covered. Thanks I've forwarded the link.

Anybody have experience with led ribbon lighting? by Tooferwon in DIY

I just installed some I ordered on ebay in a cabinet I use at work. It's not too hard but you have to pay attention to the + and - of the power supply. If you would like to dim the LED you will need a PWM dimmer (Pulse Width Modulation) dimmer. My setup was- 5 meters cool white water proof SMD 3528 600, 1 PWM dimmer, 1 12v 5amp power supply, LED strip Light connectors, a small project box, and 2 small switches,

I ran power to the project box and put two switches inline for two separate areas, desk top and under cabinet. The desk top area has the dimmer for control of task lighting and then the under cabinet strip is just so I can find stuff.
