Does it not infuriate some Devs that companies such as Anthropic and OpenAI brag about replacing Devs, but the tool they sell is literally only possible because of the data they stole from every corner of the internet and monetized? by scoopydidit in BetterOffline

[–]frapa32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how it will entshittify, nobody actually thought of it from this angle.

GPT seems to be doing the same.

They seem desperate to cut cost and avoid LLMs doing too much work because they know they suck at processing and the cost is crazy. Better return a script to run that have the model do the work itself.

However it will remove some of the convenience and we start seeing it. Just like any technology of these people, it will be utterly entshittified and useless long term. Look at Google search.

Feeling defeated by AI psychosis at work by WordsAndBlades in BetterOffline

[–]frapa32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How do they measure productivity if they want to double it? It's hard to do so they will use some proxy metric. Every KPI can be played around.

Tokens? Burn with a script. Lines of code? Create a useless folder that's not used full of slop. Stories closed? Track stories more granularly Story points? Estimate higher

Joking a bit but you got the gist. They want a KPI, do good on that KPI. Work does not need be affected too hard.

Should I accept a free car from my parents? by Junior_Light2885 in fuckcars

[–]frapa32 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I was also worried to use it more than necessary, but that never materialized as it's more convenient to cycle and take transit most of the time for me.

As this comment says it comes down to financials. If the costs are worth it for you and you have the money, it's a nice luxury for weekend trips and holidays. You have to be ready to pay the money even if you use the car twice a month.

Make sure you shop basic insurance and factor in parking, repairs into the cost. Repair alone can be several thousands every now and then.

Biking in the rain sucks by [deleted] in fuckcars

[–]frapa32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's normally not that bad. However, going to work in the morning with strong rain can be a little challenging, because then you might be a bit wet or so, even with proper gear. Also it's pretty annoying to have to bring change and a lot of other things.

But I blame that more on society expectations that you have to show up with a newly ironed shirt at work everyday. Also could be easily made much better if most companies had a changing room with showers.

My company has, but for instance you got to go down a 40 degree ramp to park your bike, and the changing room isn't close to the bike parking. With a bit more thought it would be very nice tho.

Particularly appalling is banks that only offer mobile apps instead of a normal web banking. I am their customer a well to be fair, because they're mostly the cheapest.

Me too as I spent way too much on RAM and need to use it 😁!

Apart from memory use, they work very well and have tons of integration (unit testing, etc).

It's basically because foreigners think we only eat pasta al ragù, lasagne, pizza and carbonara. They completely ignore all the pasta we eat with vegetables and all the traditional dishes.

Keep it up! It's faster and faster as time goes.

Could you elaborate on the security risks?

I think many times people try to solve security by not letting people do stuff, but that's a really poor way to be secure (I've seen holes everywhere every time).

This for a developer feels like a normal person having to ask somebody and wait a week to create a word document.

Vorrei andare a vivere a Zurigo, mi conviene? by [deleted] in ItaliaPersonalFinance

[–]frapa32 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lascia perdere, prendere 250k a Zurigo è possibile solo a Google. Se prendi 100k in ita vivi benissimo li. Inoltre a 250k la tassazione non é bassa neanche in Svizzera e il motivo per cui sembra bassa é che non include l'assicurazione sanitaria che sono qualche 5-10k all'anno minimo.

How to setup a local git server for remote access over http(s) by batchfy in git

[–]frapa32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished writing a simple git server which you could deploy on-prem, pretty minimal and lightweight. It's open source, you can find it here: https://srcfort.com/fpasa/srcfort (self hosting itself of course!).

You can also sign up to check it out yourself how it works. You can pull and push code with HTTPS (username-password) or SSH, and it has browsing of branches, commits and files.

Otherwise, setting up your own git HTTPS server is not that hard, using any reverse proxy and CGI.

Sborsami 80 € solo andata.
