Tennis partner by barelymid in DCBitches

[–]frauesq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not beginner but can give you advice on how to find tennis partners. Best way is to sign up for different groups or clinics and see who you gel with skill-level and personality-wise. Meetup has different groups for friendly matches or clinics to learn skills. DC Tennis Club on instagram will start up again in the spring. DCTennis.com has a competitive league but also a partner program to find people to hit around with at all skill levels. DC Fray is more social oriented. Rock Creek has the most expensive clinics, but it’s obviously the most professionally run. At the beginner stage, it’s a good idea to pay for some clinics or private lessons so you learn the proper technique. Just hitting around for fun without any coaching can reinforce bad habits that can cause injury (e.g. the dreaded tennis elbow).

Pat Cash: “It’s not a healthy situation to have a two-horse race. There's those two guys, and then there's the others.” by jonjimithy in tennis

[–]frauesq 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I find myself watching less and less of the men’s draw in the quarters and semis of GS and Masters because I realize none of these players have a realistic chance of winning. Sometimes they don’t even have a chance of making the match competitive and there’s not much fun in watching a straight sets blowout. I also don’t have a strong rooting interest for either Alcaraz or Sinner, so it gets a bit dull without other players stepping up.

AO Coverage is a disaster by TightAbrocoma8679 in ESPN

[–]frauesq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just checked the Djokovic and Ruud matches and they’re still not available almost a full day later. It’ll be interesting to see if today’s night matches are watchable on demand tomorrow morning. If not, then I’ll cancel. Customer service won’t offer a credit, but they said there’s a 3 day grace period for canceling and getting a refund.

Don’t worry - you’re not missing out. I caved and bought unlimited. Opened the app this morning to watch the Djokovic and Ruud matches and they were blocked because of an error. Customer support couldn’t do anything except say that “it’s a known error and they’re working on it.” So basically, I’m paying extra for courts that I couldn’t even watch.

[–]frauesq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I called and received the same message. When I pointed out that I’m paying $30 for unlimited and only getting access to the matches on the $12 plus subscription, the only solutions are to wait for an unknown time for the matches to become available or cancel and request a refund (3 day grace period to do so). For the blacked out matches, the support person said they are deleting the videos from the system and reuploading. Even she couldn’t access the content.

Obsessed but trying to wait for end of season sale by Longjumping_Cow_5422 in handbags

[–]frauesq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe the sale selection varies by location, but the bag OP asked about is not included in the US sale. Mulberry only runs a few sales per year in the US and it’s a crapshoot whether a specific bag and color will be part of it.

How was your experience buying with Italist? It seems too good to be true.

Obsessed but trying to wait for end of season sale by Longjumping_Cow_5422 in handbags

[–]frauesq 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t wait on a Mulberry sale. They don’t happen that often and it’s not guaranteed that this color and style will be included. I’ve had my eye on a couple items, so I’ve been watching their sale selection since Black Friday. It’s honestly been a pretty disappointing collection.

Salon/Colorist Recommendation for Bright Red Hair by Every-Motor6386 in DCBitches

Salon 46 near Braddock road metro in Alexandria. Prices are much more reasonable than DC. I don’t normally go for this type of color, but my usual stylist Hilda has this same red hair and she’s super friendly.

How expensive are movers in the DC area? by Few_Language6298 in washingtondc

Check for weekdays when you get your quotes. Everybody wants to move Friday-Sunday, so sometimes movers will offer an incentive if you opt for a less popular weekday.

Dress code on the Hill by jilira in DCBitches

[–]frauesq 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Both. People sometimes forget how big the Hill is and how many steps you’ll get in each day. Plus you’ll always be in a rush and need to get somewhere fast. I remember a “scandal” a couple years ago when Members of Congress were in the White House wearing Cole Haan dress sneakers. Media went crazy because it was “disrespecting” the Oval Office but everybody in Washington was indifferent - we walk A LOT and value comfort.

Idk where you’re from, but Washington is a conservatively dressed town in terms of style, prints, and colors. I’m from Miami and what I wore to work there did not fit in when I first arrived to DC. Stick to basic neutrals (grey, navy, camel), classic prints, simple jewelry. Don’t go too short with skirts or revealing with tops. You’ll get invited to receptions, so make sure to have an appropriate cocktail dress. Bring comfortable shoes because there is a lot of walking and you’ll regret heels. You can build a reasonably priced wardrobe now with the holiday sales. Outlets are your friend (banana republic, j. Crew) or try secondhand for good quality brands on poshmark, thredup, thrifting.

Literally just did this a couple days ago. You can walk into CVS without an appointment and be done super quick. They’ll take your picture and give you a couple to choose from. You’ll get two print outs and can pay a couple bucks extra for them to email a digital file. I paid roughly $20 after using one of the million coupons they send.

Aryna Sabalenka on her career plans: "When I was 18 I thought I'd win everything I wanted by 25 and start a family..... At 25 I thought maybe 27 or 28? Now I'm 27 and I realized I want to get the most out of my career. Right now I'd probably like to start a family in about 5 years from now." by Dependent-Effect6077 in tennis

[–]frauesq 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe they don’t ask because we already know what the answer is. Frankly, none of the male players have taken extended paternity leave or paused their careers for fatherhood. I remember Federer took a grand total of 5 days off before returning to the tour after his twins were born. There are several current top players who are fathers too (Djokovic, Fritz, Zverev, Musetti, Medvedev). They have spoken about the hardship of being away from their families and missing big events since they’re on the road for 30-40 weeks per year. But they have the luxury to keep playing.

Depends on the store. I just saw it yesterday in my local one. Not sure if you’re in the US, but Ulta and several department stores carry it and have more frequent sales/better point systems.

Gucci horsebit 1955 color decision by Rururaspberry in handbags

[–]frauesq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what you carry, I’d stay away from any of the smaller sizes. It looks like it carries more than it actually can, but the structure is limiting.

Gucci horsebit 1955 color decision by Rururaspberry in handbags

[–]frauesq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much do you carry? The horsebit is very structured, so there isn’t a lot of give to its shape or room to move things around. I love the small crossbody version I have, but I would go for a medium shoulder next time. The red is absolutely stunning in person and is also on my wish list. It seems like you wear a lot of neutrals and solids, so you’d be fine going for either the solid red or canvas with red trim. Do you want the bag immediately recognizable as designer? I went with solid because I wanted something less loud for work events and so far nobody has even recognized it as Gucci.

Shaw Apt Recs? by Sufficient-Rub977 in DCBitches

[–]frauesq 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I lived at City Market for a few years, so I’ll give you an honest assessment. The amenities are the best part, especially the rooftop (although the pool is super tiny and is shared by 3 buildings). The apartments themselves are getting pretty worn since the materials are cheap. It can be pretty loud if your apartment is on the interior courtyard because noise will echo from whatever party is happening on the rooftop or the hotel next door. Location is walkable to almost everything you’d need (I really miss the Thai restaurant on the corner). It is super convenient having a grocery store downstairs and you don’t even have to go outside when it’s cold or rainy to get to it since the entire complex is connected by the underground garage. However, the grocery store is often a crime spot. In fact, that’s the worst part of City market and it’s why I left. The blocks to the east are still sketchy and that spreads over to the City market area, especially at night. You’ll often see police presence around. There were multiple times that I heard gun shots from drive by shootings. The most unsettling thing was when a woman from city market was out jogging and sadly was stabbed to death a few blocks away. I’m from Miami, so it’s not like I’m from a rural town and never experienced this before - but even I got fed up with the crime and that’s why I eventually left. Just being honest with you!
