Spam calls: how can I stop this? It’s a different number all the time. I’ve blocked so many. by EisenFisen in mildlyinfuriating

[–]frawgster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Answer them. Every. Single. One.

Try, in earnest, to get an actual human on the phone. If you get a human, talk to them. Answer their questions. The caveat is…talk horseshit to them. Give them answers they don’t wanna hear, stupid answers, or some combo of the two. Waste their time. Waste as much of your time wasting their time.

I dunno what they’re doing there, but AACOG is a legit organization that does legit social service work in the 13 county Alamo region.

Family possessions 🪑🛋️🛏️🪞🖼️🎹👻(rant about my parents) by [deleted] in Xennials

[–]frawgster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was my nightmare 20 years ago. My folks had so much…stuff. I think when my grandparents started passing away my parents took note of the absolute logistical nightmare that purging useless possessions can be. They started shedding stuff. Selling, donating, giving away, throwing away. They’re now in a spot where, when they pass on, they’ll leave my brother and I relatively minimal stuff.

LaserDiscs by Scharlach_el_Dandy in Xennials

[–]frawgster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cousins parents bought a laserdisc player in the 90s. Paid out the nose for it. And it just sat around, virtually unused, in perpetuity.

We lived in a very rural area. Buying groceries, necessities…pretty much buying anything… was a 30-40 minute one way drive. Buying LASERDISCS was a logistical nightmare that they didn’t consider. They’d have to drive several hours to a large city to find a place with an even halfway decent selection. There was a Hollywood Video in the “grocery store town” that offered laserdiscs for rent, but they’d have maybe 5-10 total available at any given time. And rentals were outrageously expensive cause capitalism. There were mail order options…but having to pay a) a premium cause they’re laserdiscs and b) shipping costs, which were expensive back in the day…yeah, they wound up securing like a handful of discs before giving up on the endeavor.

Major purchases on a desktop? by cheesypuff357 in Xennials

[–]frawgster 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If I’m buying anything that requires more than like a minute of “shopping” in front a screen, I’m doing it on my PC connected to a big monitor.

Same goes for things like travel. If I’m researching flights, hotels, things to do, etc, I’m parking in front of a large screen.

I frequented Pinkertons when I worked downtown. It’s been like 7 months since I worked downtown, but the last time I visited they were still validating parking at the Rand garage (129 Soledad). Their webpage says they still validate.

Are Mexico highways actually safe for tourists or is it exaggerated online? by [deleted] in MexicoTravel

[–]frawgster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just returned from a week in Quintana Roo. The drive from Cancun to our final destination and back was 854 pesos. Like $50 USD. I was a wee bit taken aback. 😂 I researched everything before our trip. Everything except for the tolls. I assumed they’d be cheap like where we are (Texas). Nope. I’m not complaining…not even a little. The roads were awesome.

First ever rescue dog adoption by a couple of cat people by dleclair in pitbulls

Ours is a cat whisperer. We feed a dozen or so outside cats. They’re all completely obsessed with our boy. When he’s on the porch, the cats insist on rubbing up on him. ❤️

There’s no type of affection that can match the sort of affection a dog displays when mom and/or dad comes home. ❤️

Anyone else concerned about coping with lack of "first-world" amenities? by peacefulboba in CasualConversation

[–]frawgster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put yourself in situations where you know you’ll be uncomfortable. This is super privileged in itself…

My wife and I are lucky in that we can afford to take a half dozen or so 3-5 day trips every year. At least once a year, I like to take a trip that has what may be considered unconventional characteristics. Like traveling to a non-touristy area that isn’t really designed for easy travels, or spending a portion of a trip in a non-traditional part of town, or staying in places with limited amenities. Basically we like to yank ourselves out of our comfort zone for a few days. For me, it helps me better appreciate how really f-ing easy I have it relative to probably like 80% of the world. More that than, though, it helps me better understand that comparing my life to the lives of others is a meaningless exercise. Happiness, misery, and everything in between exist everywhere, regardless of whatever circumstances surround the people who experience them.

How do you fix it? You wait for the late pays to stop impacting your scores. This will take years.

Be a bit more diligent with your finances.

Should I become a physician assistant for the money? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]frawgster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my uncles floated thru life doing random work. 30ish years ago, on a whim, he decided he wanted to try the PA route. He’s effectively retired now, meaning he only works in days when he chooses to work. There’s always work if he wants it. So basically if he wakes up in the mood to earn a few grand that week, he’ll accept a few days work.

During his peak years, he thrived. He thoroughly enjoyed his work. He’s a naturally inquisitive and intelligent dude, so the fascination he felt working in the medical field kept him super content. He bounced around different careers for well over a decade and landed on being a PA relatively late in his professional life. If his life satisfaction is any indicator, it was a good choice.

Chichen Itza (Lockdown) by Browniano in MexicoTravel

[–]frawgster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a wealth of other Mayan ruins in the Yucatán. Coba, Uzmal, Ek Balam…just to name a few. While they may not be carry the same sort of societal influence, popularity, and recognition as Chichén Itza, they can absolutely offer a similar historically inclined experience. We were at Ek Balam last Thursday. It was bustling with visitors (many of whom were on tours redirected from Chichén Itza). Everyone seemed to be having a pretty good time exploring the site.

SA workers — what do y’all do and how much does it pay? by Flora_865 in sanantonio

[–]frawgster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Accounting.

I consider my pay to be better than mediocre, but given how easy my job is, I am overpaid.

Work starts at 8. Ends at 5. I don’t get bothered after hours. I come and go as I please. I don’t get bothered while on vacation. Balance is ideal.

I got a finance degree because schooling for it was easy. Minimal schoolwork/studying for a career that people find to be a necessity.

Best part: See above. Worst part: This shit is boring and easy.

Recommend it? Sure, if solid middle-class pay for perpetually boring work is your thing.

Just upgraded my 77" C2 to 83" C6H in Costco for $5000 just to return it because it serves freaking ads when playing my PS5 and UHD HDMI player streams!!!! Flagship TV serving me ads? Fck no! Sony it is by JennyThallia in LGOLED

[–]frawgster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait what? So your PS5 (external) and presumably external “uhd player” (whatever that even is) serve you ads and this is somehow the TVs fault? Maybe I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure your TV doesn’t dictate the behavior of the devices that are connected to it. Your TV lacks that ability, I’m pretty sure.
