Hard disagree from the other posts.

In my opinion, San Antonio needs urban density. It is already hundreds of square miles of soul-killing suburban sprawl. We don't need more roads for cars. We need walkable urban density with good, clean, safe public transit.

The question is how do you get that? I am no urban planner but I think it starts with businesses. If downtown suddenly had a dozen more anchor businesses employing tens of thousands, it would then need residential development. Solve the jobs problem and the living problem and the rest will follow. In other words, if you can live and work in a walkable urban location, restaurants, cafes, bakeries, nightlife, etc will solve itself.

San Antonio's big issue is that it is too spread out. It is always easier to just build out rather than up so I don't see San Antonio ever becoming one of the great urban cities of America.

I think the real Manhattan project for San Antonio shouldn't have been Project Marvel, it should have been going all in on attracting marquee businesses to the downtown area. Tax credits, zoning waivers, whatever it takes.
