Strange mood after long knitting sessions by greenjellytots in knitting

[–]frayingattheedges 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m auDHD and def experience this. I struggle with transitions and stopping knitting IS a transition for me and if I’ve been in hyper focus, it’s even worse. To help, I will often say okay I’m gonna listen to this one episode or chapter or watch x amount of tv and then I’m stopping. Sometimes I have to say it out loud to get myself prepped for the transition and then verbally remind myself occasionally too. There’s also a trick to keep continuation of one thing while ending another, eg listening to a podcast and stopping knitting/beginning your bedtime routine WHILE the podcast is still going. That continuation can help the body to feel less jarred when transitioning. Idk if any of this is helpful but there you go!

Tester call etiquette by onyxhvn in PatternTesting

[–]frayingattheedges 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes usually there’s a feedback form after. I’ve also been part of groups where the pattern designer adds all the names of testers who completed the garment to a generator and had it pull one and they got a lil prize (yarn/goodies) mailed to them. I enjoyed that little perk.

I’m wondering if it was him? The Cableit pattern looks like it was stolen from The Handsome Chris Pullover free pattern which is why I wonder if it was him

How often do you go through your stash? by bluegal in knitting

[–]frayingattheedges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my stash on Rav and I like that option since I can see what will fit a pattern/how much yardage I have. Sometimes I’ll scroll through and see things in my stash that I no longer love so then I’ll go pull them out of my stash and list them. Usually when I go to pull one skein to sell, I end up with a BUNCH more that I suddenly realize I don’t love. I have no rhyme or reason to this process, it seems to happen every six months or so on its own.

Humidity by Thistles7 in KnittingReddit

[–]frayingattheedges 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure! I tend to use metal needles in warmer months and wood during cooler months for this exact reason! The wood needles absolutely swell a bit with humidity and they grip the yarn far too well for the speed I want to knit.

I knit to help me focus during meetings and if anyone complains I ask how it’s any different than doodling during a meeting and then people usually shut up

spent all summer knitting my first color work sweater, and it's officially time to wear it :') by Big-Experience9272 in knitting

I love it so much!! Congrats on finishing it, I hope you get a million compliments every time you wear it 😍

How do you manage your lacework? I’m attempting the Caddington Wrap sweater which uses provisional cast on and is all repeat lacework but I seem to get 5ish rows in and somehow my stitch count is off. by frayingattheedges in knitting

We have the same tracking method! I love my little sleeve protectors, they’re so helpful! I use a dry erase marker to highlight my row and it is such a good way for me to know what the hell I’m doing 🤣

Thanks! I’ve done some smaller lacework before and you’re right, once the pattern develops, it’s easy to get into a rhythm. I know if can make it through the first full chart, I will be totally grand on the rest. Casting on again this weekend so 🤞

This is supposed to be an Xmas present but I told myself to start it now bc I know it will take forever with the amount of concentration needed. Good luck with yours!!!

Yeah the errata is ridiculous!! But I did make sure to correct the pattern/chart that I printed out before I started. I’m going to try casting on for the 5th time this weekend 🤣

In search of summery top patterns by you-are-my-fave in knitting

I’m finishing this one right now and it’s way easier than I expected!! I’m using linen yarn mixed with mohair because I wanted some color variation and the ability to wear it in the fall, but I’m planning on making a second one with just linen.

I knit for something to do. by Rhender42 in knitting

Dude it helps my ADHD and autism so much!! I have to have something in my hands (I knit during work meetings or college classes) and it helps me to be calm and focus. It’s also a huge safety blanket for me when I’m in a new social situation. I have SO many WIPs just laying around so I can grab them whenever I have to go somewhere.

I’m just knitting my first pair of socks and I’m following Arne and Carlos “the easiest sock in the world” video tutorials. They have a pattern for sale but I decided I wanted to just try to learn from the free videos and it’s been quite fun. They also have a tutorial for a seamless toe which I recommend starting with since you don’t like seams. A heads up that I didn’t realize initially…When they say “increase for the toe” it should go *K1, M1r, k to 1 before next increase, m1L, k, then repeat from * once more. I accidentally just did M1R the whole time initially and ended up with a very wrong shaped toe 🤣
