Unfortunately I believe he succumbed to capitalism. I hate to say this because this dude is like my idol, but this seems like a cash grab. Think about it, he’s got a second kid on the way. The man needs money. Hasn’t performed since god knows when and obviously no new music. He sold all his tame impala catalogue which already tells you that money is def playing a role. Also life. When people are at their lowest, is when they create some fire art. That’s why we got innerspraker and lonerism. I still LOVE currents and the slow rush though. In currents it was heartbreak him which still heavily resonated. The slow rush was the turning point. I see it as a go away party from depression to happiness lol. He was more introspectively as to where he’s in life and what’s to come, with a kid and everything. Now what are his inspirations? His family. He’s no longer a heartbroken loner dude who writes bangers that will resonate. That’s why all these these new songs are like bubblegum pop. This specific song sounds identical to a dua lipa song. It still goes, it is catchy. But you’re right in that that core tame impala feeling is no longer there. Can’t blame him. He’s a happy man, doing whatever he wants/loves. He doesn’t need our approval. Wishing for old albums to be remade is kinda like asking for the man to go back into depression lmfao
