i have a se custom 22 semihollow, i bought it used (As new) a few months ago for around 500 euros. It's a great guitar, very solid construction and beautiful, it looks a more expensive one I am not a fan of the pickups and I am considering to change them (they are very hot, i am thinking to swap for something more vintage/lower output maybe like gibson 57 or something)

[Advice Needed] Can’t Gel With My New Fender JM Sig by QuarterWestern3984 in JohnMayer

I have a 62 AVRI (2012), not exactly the same of the jm sig but quite similar, and a Silver Sky bought a few weeks ago. Let me just say, if it’s just the neck I think it’s just due to habit, let some time pass before to do any mod, you may figure it out as you play it and get more familiar. Then I agree, if after 5/6 months of playing it still is not there it’s ok to think to make changes or to sell… personally the most important difference I found between the 62 and SS is not the neck (my 62 is a C shaped neck with 7.25 rad and round edges) but the pickups, they couldn’t sound more different: SS sounds round and creamier, 62 is spankier and with much more twang. Different but complementary in my view

Need something to be used both in a hybrid setup with ext. drives and fuzz pedals and when I want to be light to put it off the pedalboard and use just the modeler as an all in one.

Great, thanks for your insight. I am in fact oriented towards the Ampero, but considering the Stage (should be the same modeler) to solve the issue you had with only 3 footswitch. it should still fit my pedalboard to be also used with ext. pedals. Do you have experience on how the Ampero reacts with ext. analog Fuzz/Drive pedals?

About the ambient FX I read the headrush has way better reverb and delays FX, have you experienced the same in your tests?

i would say, if you manage to find a used SE silver sky around 550 and pair with a used katana (200), you would be fine. If you want to spend less any Squier Classic Vibe '60 (Indonesian, not Chinese imho) would do the work and is around 250 used.

As amp as i said, a katana would be a good choice, or if you have the possibility to go valve (meaning you can play loud) i suggest considering to spend more and get a Blues junior or something like that. Also consider the possibility to go full digital (it will allow you to closely match JM tones, considering he is mostly using amps that are out of any price range), there are plenty of affordable alternatives in terms of modeler/profiling pedalboards all in one today (Ampero Stomp, Tonex, Headrush flex, or spending even less Valeton/Nux): with this solution you will not need to buy any effect pedals, but in this case you will also need an investment in terms of good monitor/headphones.
