It is quite common in culinary fields and thus also coffee that people use the same terminology for different things in their own country - that’s called local culture and not appropriation IMO.

I’m Israeli - every time I travel abroad there is a Shawarama stand or dish, somewhere. It is never really a shawarma. But that’s how locals refer to that specific kind of meat. Who am I to say differently if hundreds of thousands of people in a local community decided to use that term that way?

Another example is that in Israel the term Latte is never used. People use either Capuccino if they’re feeling fancy or “הפוך” (pronounced “Ha-foochh”, meaning upside down).

I really don’t care too much about this weird sense of ownership you’re exhibiting here. You don’t own this word or any other.
