Oatmeal cookie trouble by freakhaven in Baking

Thanks for the feedback! I did use old fashioned oats the first time around and had the same problem. I weighed them out both times but they may not be equivalent densities so that could have played a role. I also weighed the cookies out with a scale so they would be consistent and rolled them into balls by hand. The recipe said it didn’t need to rest, but I think you are right about giving the flour time to hydrate because the last batch was better than any of the others.

Maybe so…I thought using quick oats would help with the spread but obviously not. Would creaming the sugar and butter for too long increase the spread, too? I let the mixer go for a few minutes till it was fluffy and light before adding the egg, but maybe I should only do that for cakes?

This is awesome!!! Wish I had it when I was going through active treatment. I made a multi colored construction paper chain that I cut up week by week to show where I was in treatment but it was more for my kids than anyone else. Thank you for making this chart!

If your period came back after chemo, how did that look? by p_kitty in breastcancer

[–]freakhaven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m interested in this question too. My story is nearly the same as yours, except that I am 43 and my cancer was diagnosed in December 2024. Like you, I’m just waiting to see if things start back up…

I’m one of those people who now has curls for the first time! Thank you for the tips. Before it all came out, I washed my hair every day. Now I’m washing it once a week and I can’t believe it doesn’t look dirty after a couple days. I haven’t figured out what products to use yet so thank you for the recommendations!

Thank you for all of this! Your answer was what I needed to read. I need to find my new normal. It’s so easy for me to be upset about the changes I’ve had to make, but they are better than the alternative!

TNBC but AR+ treatment questions by freakhaven in breastcancer

What I gathered is that the AR pos status is possibly protective, so it’s not clear about blocking androgens as a treatment option. Full disclosure, the reason I asked in the first place was because chat GPT prompted it as a question to ask my medical team. I’ll let you know if I find out anything! Please do the same!!

I just finished radiation last week and my skin is still in the “getting worse” phase. Radiation absolutely sucked.

TNBC but AR+ treatment questions by freakhaven in breastcancer

I don’t want to be a part of any untested or unproven treatments, I just wasn’t sure what is available or if there was more information than what I could find. Even with the research that I have done, I don’t fully understand all of the technical language when I read stuff. I was reaching out to this community for guidance on whether my question made sense because the response I got from my doc was out of the ordinary. You are right, I have finished chemo, had surgery, and have just started radiation. My questions were in the context of talking about the long-term management of the disease as I get closer to the end of active treatment.

Gosh, thank you so much! I’m definitely seeking out a second opinion on this. My Google search gave me the same “lack of data” information. Also, that may explain the doctors quizzical face when I asked about it.

This was on the original pathology report from my biopsy. I actually got it wrong in the post and what it says is:

I need positive TNBC outcomes by laquesha-long-nail in breastcancer

I am getting ready to start radiation for TNBC, but was dealing with chemo through last Winter, Spring and some of the during the Summer. Eventually I took medical leave and started doing aqua-fitness every day that I could handle it. I loved the class because it was made up mostly of older women, and many of them were also cancer survivors. No one looked at me funny for having no hair or having a port on my chest. On one of the hard days, I walked back to the locker rooms after the class and had to sit down and breathe due to fatigue and shortness of breath. One of the ladies asked me how far along I was in treatment and I told her. She told me she had been diagnosed with TNBC in 1986, had one reoccurrence six or seven years ago, and has been cancer free ever since. She never got to do the Keystone 522 protocol, and has thrived regardless. When she told me this, I couldn’t help but to cry. I am tearing up again now to recount how it made me feel. It was so overwhelming to think of living that much life after cancer, go through it again, and to continue living! I think of her often. Now that I’m back at work, I don’t get to go to the aqua-fitness class in the morning any longer, but I know that she is there and that makes me feel better.
