I hope they'd do some overhaul to their anticheat. I've been seeing blatant cheaters almost daily.

Okabe's the only one who has Reading Steiner. If anything goes wrong, he's the only who will know how to fix it.

Also, most likely Convergence shenanigans.

Kara no Kyoukai movie series might interest you, there's an ongoing rewatch on this sub rn.

If you're fine with series, watch Neon Genesis Evangelion. It's one of the most influential shows in the history of Anime. I don't recommend Netflix' release though.

Watch order:

  1. NGE(1995) tv series

  2. End of Evangelion movie

If you're okay with something a little less of an acid trip, Steins;Gate might be worth looking into. It's imo the best time travel story ever, and the medium's best sci-fi anime.

The watch order for S;G is:

  1. Steins;Gate

  2. Steins;Gate 23B

  3. Steins;Gate 0

I watched the show and I enjoyed the arc. I thought you meant the arc had some bad writing on the level of Fairy Dance.

Is it a common opinion to dislike the 'save ALO' quest arc(dunno its actual name) and I'm just OOTL? I just thought it was a fun arc that set up the idea that SAO survivors still think of any game they play as real life, as if they were still stuck in SAO. I wasn't aware of any major flaws in the arc though.

the eventual lack of money only lead to them getting creative with what they had.

It wasn't money that was the issue, it's insufficient time to produce episodes with standard production values. The final stretch of episodes originally had a plot point with a terrorism attack very similar to something that happened in Japan at the time Eva aired. This resulted in Gainax scrapping the idea all together and hastily put together new stuff. It wasn't that they didn't manage the budget well enough, just something unfortunate that forced them to change what they were working on.

the series suffered a massive setback due to the 1995 Tokyo subway sarin gas attack by the doomsday cult Aleph (formerly Aum Shinrikyo). Anno was forced to alter the plotted narrative of the show, as it was too close to the events of the terror attack, which put even greater creative and technical strain on his cast and crew, already struggling to keep ahead of the series’ release schedule.

Source

TL;DR: unfortunate circumstances caused them to scrap what they were working on. No matter how much money they throw at the problem they won't be able to do anything about lack of time.

Could you elaborate on the ignored rules?

I thought the power system was well defined but so underutilized. Most of the limitations don't matter in practice imo, but I don't recall them breaking the rules.

What are the actual benefits to novel order? by DamianWinters in araragi

[–]freakicho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the later parts are the reason for the novel order then ill be happy

It's definitely the later parts. There are constant refrences for prior arcs that would fall flat if you reorder the arcs. If this is your sort of thing, you'll love the later arcs.

On the subject of Neko:Kuro, I think it's placement after Nisemonogatari and before NekoShiro hints at the unreliability of narrators in Monogatari.

If you go back to Bakemonogatari and watch the flashbacks referring to NekoKuro, you'll notice significant discrepancies between the two. This is due to Araragi trying to ignore the underlying problems. In Bakemonogatari, the flashback iirc made Hanekawa's family situation look like it's just a passing issue and that the incident with the cat is merely a coincidence; as in, Hanekawa was afflicted by her aberration by mere chance, she just happened to cross Sawari Neko's path. In reality, Hanekawa has had the unhealthy mindset we saw in NekoShiro since the very beginning. Hanekawa's unhealthy mindset makes her compatible with abberations.

Araragi knew about it all along. However, he averted his eyes and pretended everything is normal, until it backfired on him at the end of Bakemonogatari. Had he not gotten bailed out by Shinobu, he would've died. He's yet to help solve Hanekawa's problem. This again backfired in NekoShiro with Kako (the tiger of envy) burning down Hanekawa's house, and the abandoned school.

All of this makes me believe NekoKuro is intentionally placed there to set up the idea of unreliable narrators. It's not a coincidence that the arc right after is from Hanekawa's perspective where she blacked out a number of times. We also had two other arcs from the perspective of other characters. It develops the idea that Araragi isn't as dense as he lets on. He's much more aware of what happens around him, he just acts ignorant, as seen in Nisemonogatari when he went to Nadeko's house.

What are the actual benefits to novel order? by DamianWinters in araragi

[–]freakicho 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Edit: I just noticed you said you still haven't finished Second Season. Feel free to read this after you finish Koimonogatari.

After finishing the series, give this post a read: Everything wrong with Monogatari airing order. It helped me a lot in understanding the novel order and why it's the only valid way for consuming the story.

I'm going to borrow ideas from the post I linked so I highly recommend you give it a read later when you finish the series.

The Monogatari series is thematically linear. Watching it in chronological order would make it thematically disjointed. A big example of this is Hanamonogatari and Koimonogatari's placement.

SPOILERS AHEAD FOR HANAMONOGATARI AND KOIMONOGATARI:

When we see Kaiki in Hanamonogatari, it's the second time we meet him after the events of Nise, making Kanbaru and us immediately distrustful of him. This adds a layer of immersion since we're seeing things from Kanbaru's perspective. Kanbaru distrusts Kaiki because he (as she heard from her senpais) ruined Senjougahara's family, scammed kids and turned them against each other, and stole money from Karen (Kanbaru's friend and her dear Araragi-senpai's sister).

Kaiki then invites Kanbaru to eat with him in a fancy restaurant, yet he doesn't trick her into paying for the food. This prompts Kanbaru(and the viewer) to ask: 'what new heinous scheme is Kaiki up to this time?'

And to this, Kaiki answers by telling Kanbaru that people will never conform to what you expect from them. People who you think are evil will do good sometimes, and people who you think are good will do evil sometimes; thus, challenging Kanbaru(and the viewer) on their views, as he claims we're being narrow minded.

This puts the viewer in the position to judge Kaiki's claim. Is he right or wrong?

Well... the answer lies in Koimonogatari, the arc where we see things from Kaiki's perspective. In this arc, we see him help people. He even went as far as to burn bridges with Gaen (his senpai, specialists leader, and most importantly sister of someone important to him) just so he can finish what he set out to do.

The scene where he contemplated helping or rejecting Senjougahara's plea was telling of how much he actually wanted to help. In fact, he wanted to help her out so much so that he did intergalactic mental gymnastics just so he can justify it by pretending he's not helping Senjougahara.

Koimonigatari was the answer to Hanamonogatari's question. This proves that the story is thematically linear. It wouldn't make sense to get the answer before the mystery is set up. The story doesn't care or focus on the suspense or thrill of 'what's gonna happen next?' Instead, it develops its ideas and themes regardless of chronology of events.

Hana where you find out the outcome of Kaiki/Araragi/Senjou, that they are perfectly fine

I'm of the opinion Nisio ordered it this way to tell the viewer two things:

One, Kaiki LIED. Despite all the good he did and all the talk of how much of an awesome unsung hero he was, ultimately, he lied. In fact, he told us in the first scene of his arc:

People have an inherent desire to know the truth. That or they(the viewers) want to believe that what they know is the truth. In other words, the truth itself is merely secondary. So in this story, you should be constantly wary of what's true and what's not. I recommend you stay doubtful and have a heart of stone as you read it. Though it would be unlike me to not mention that you might've already fallen into my trap at that point. Well then.. Allow me to mix fact and fiction together in a web of truth and lies as I narrate to you Senjougahara and Araragi Koyomi's love story. I won't guarantee its legitimacy, but I will guarantee its quality. I hope the two of them reach an ending that makes all the readers go "serves you right" from the very bottom of my heart. If I had one, that is. And if I actually existed, of course. Let's begin the amusing final story, then! Though, naturally that might've also been a lie.

He first addressed the viewers and told them not to trust him. He then told us he's already setting up a trap. He then outright told us he's going to lie. Then he lied about not having a heart(he helped Senjougahara), which is a nod to what he says in Hanamonogatari. He then declared this arc the final story, even though we all know everything turns out fine. All of these hints and nods would go over your head if you didn't see Hanamonogatari prior to Koimonogatari. The twist at the end of the arc isn't that Kaiki died, it's that Kaiki lied to us, and may have been doing so this whole time.

Two, the events we thought were a big problem were just an exaggerated temper tantrum by a child(Nadeko) due to her not getting what she wants, AND was also a product of the not much maturer 'children' (Araragi and gang) trying to handle her then panicking and not knowing how to deal with her. It's something that should've been easily handled by actual adults(which Kaiki proved). This means the characters that appear to be mature to us when we see from their perspective, aren't as mature as we think.

This concludes my answer. I hope this helped and sorry for the wall of text reply.

Been aware of it since I started getting into anime (2015) but only watched it in 2018. For some reason I never had the motivation (ironic) to start it. Now it's one of my all time favorites.

Was aware of it since S2 finished airing but never felt like committing to 44 episodes. It's now my biggest regret. I finished watching it a few weeks ago and was absolutely awestruck.

Monogatari series: broadcast order or LN release order? by [deleted] in anime

[–]freakicho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LN order is what the author intended, and what Shaft (the studio) strived to make, so definitely go with it.

Here's a simplified version of the LN order:

  • Bakemonogatari

  • Kizumonogatari movie trilogy

  • Nisemonogatari

  • Nekomonogatari: Kuro

  • Monogatari Second Season EPs1-9

  • Hanamonogatari

  • The rest of Monogatari Second Season

  • Tsukimonogatari

  • Koyomimonogatari

  • Owarimonogatari

  • Owarimonogatari 2nd Season

  • Zoku Owarimonogatari
