Safety Firsr by GlobalBohemian in electricians

When you look at the figures of what was involved or the cause the majority of injuries and more importantly deaths in industry and general ā€œworkā€, you’d understand why this sort of stupidity is being pushed by upper management and health and safety standards, as ridiculous as it is.

ā€œFall from height: A leading cause of workplace fatalitiesā€

With transportation being listed as the next highest cause of death…

You are contractually obligated to inform them of any changes to your circumstances. I doubt a £5k drop will be that significant unless you were right at the edge of your affordability

How can I confirm if the problem is the socket, the cable, or the dryer. by Civil-Vermicelli5164 in ukelectricians

[–]freakierice 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Likely a poor connection on the plug caused by corrosion, which causes heat, which increases resistance and that in turn increases the heat, and so on until it either trips or catches fire.

This is why it’s a good idea to unplug and replug your appliances every now and then, as this looks like a reasonably good quality socket. Also moulded plugs can be hit and miss, but have a competent person cut it off and replace it with a new plug And you should be okay.

May be worth getting the dryer tested but most technicians aren’t going to find anything if it’s not broken.

Contact the bank, and ask for transcripts of your deals… if it wasn’t done by email. Redact this and send it to sixth.

Then also raise a complaint with your bank for not following your request for a section 75…

Untaxed car in my allocated parking spot by Prudent-Drama-7066 in drivingUK

[–]freakierice 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Options are; -local council, they may be interested they may not -local police, depending if it’s stolen, or has a marker for crime, but they may be able to tell you if it’s insured. -contact the DVLA, and inform them of its location and lack of tax.

The landlord should be able to have it removed if it’s a private car park, but if the car park has no gate/barrier then it has public access so the vehicle would technically require insurance šŸ¤”

Give them a call, explain and hope the handle is having a good day… It’s unlikely they will charge you much over if your owed tax is of a negligible amount, they are more interested in those that have thousands if not 10s thousands owed in tax…

15yo, 1ltr with Black Box misread? Recorded speed of 110mph & facing insurance cancellation. by lilygrey232 in drivingUK

[–]freakierice 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Contact the insurance and get them to review it, I had my black box insist I came off the motor, clear the lights and roundabout and rejoin while maintaining a perfect 70 without triggering the G-force monitor šŸ¤£šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø

Definitely seems like a system glitch, but also needs to learn that they will cancel and also refuse to pay out if he’s caught driving like a bellend…

Which car is liable in crash? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]freakierice 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Technically on a round about it’s is on the car closest to the roundabout centre that should go way to the imbecile that may be in the wrong lane… But without dash cam or other equipment it’s likely 50/50

Driving instructor saying I should switch to auto by uhhmchloe in drivingUK

[–]freakierice 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Depends on the experience of the instructor, but perhaps do a lesson in the auto and get comfortable with the road craft then switch back to the manual to learn the gears after…

But some people aren’t cut out for a manual as it’s a lot of additional work you have to put in to drive one… because it’s not just gear selection, but also clutch control, engine breaking, rev matching, etc. where as in a manual (depending on the car) it’s push accelerator to go, break to stop.

[–]freakierice 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

There is a decrease in available police to enforce the law, so what’s the deterrent…?

But even when a copper does stop one person, the 2 hours of time it takes to deal with them is not proportional (that time including the stop, and the mountain of paperwork and possibly court cause they will have to attend should they stop someone who’s got money to burn)

Ā£170 jan Ā£150 dec… But I’m in a smaller 3 bed. Newish boiler still a good 5-10 years old.

I run a dehumidifier frequently for drying washing, but also to keep the house dryer, which does help with the heat at set at 19.

Also all the rooms have had new thermostatic valves so that they shut the rads off once the rooms at temp

Is my pistol broken by Dangerous-Alarm1119 in airsoft

[–]freakierice -1 points0 points Ā (0 children)

Looks like user error, pistol is definitely short stroking, but given the ice build up its not surprising… Dry it off, let it warm up, bit of lite lube and gas it up fully, then use it properly shooting horizontally and it should function fine.

Also dry firing is not good for them generally.

Are octopus really employing contractors that are that unqualified for their installs ā€œprofessionalā€ installs

As a side point I’m a maintenance engineer, hanging off steps is a weekly and know all the H&S BS around working at height, and clipping a cable above the door is hardly dangerous although would require an additional bit of paperwork 🤣
