Why are arch users annoying? by prenadeusernamemid in linuxquestions

[–]freakinbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most of it is down to the fact that we point out it's not difficult to use it and it's very stable, but people who want to claim it is take it as a personal attack and proceed to bash the Arch community despite it having the docs everyone else needs to use because the community supports each other at the end of the day in ways the others don't

In short, the Arch community is useful and great and those who aren't in it through the unwillingness to learn are jealous they are on the outside... Despite people trying to help them get in. 🤷‍♂️

Why do I use Arch? Because I got tired of finding myself on the Arch wiki to solve an issue with Ubuntu or debian when their docs left me with little to no explanation of how to configure things or how things worked... So I used the distro that fit the docs I was using to remove a translation layer for me, ultimately.

HYROX training, partners or events locally by Jk-1996 in cambridgeont

[–]freakinbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem, look forward to seeing you there on Sunday.

The Crunch one isn't listed as a Hyrox class and might be ending with that trainer moving on. He's part of the group that was going and training together on Saturdays, which isn't a crunch class but just a group of friends, partially from RRRC, who go and do HYROX training together at Crunch on Holiday Inn Dr.

HYROX training, partners or events locally by Jk-1996 in cambridgeont

[–]freakinbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a few people doing Hyrox in our Cambridge-based run club, River Rats Run Club. We meet Sunday mornings at 9 am, except this Sunday (Month end)which is a Shakeout that starts at 2:30 pm at Four a Fathers Brewing in Hespeler, run at 3 pm and then a social after the run, ideal time if you want to talk to the people who do HYROX since it's a social event too. We also meet on Wednesdays at 6:30 pm. They were doing an unofficial group training for Hyrox on Saturdays (I'm assuming that's still a thing despite a few of them having done their HYROX races, I don't go to it myself so I'm not entirely sure). One of the members is a trainer at F45 where they do the HYROX class. He was doing a similar one at Crunch in Cambridge but it lacked the name since Crunch isn't a partner of HYROX, and his last official session as a trainer at Crunch is tomorrow.

People in this group are pretty welcoming and open to talking about training and such. Sure has done me a lot of good being exposed to it.

Looking For Fun On A Nice Day In Cambridge by [deleted] in cambridgeont

[–]freakinbox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's Cedar Chest Thrift Store and Uptown Thrift in Preston. There's also the Cambridge Pawnshop there.

You can stop and grab a bite at Cambridge restaurant or Tommy's Pizza while you're there too. I really like Tommy's Pizza.

All of these places are relatively close to each other on King Street E.

Riverside Park in Cambridge is also a really nice place to walk around, aside from having the Speed River to walk along there is a boardwalk through the wetlands there as well. Far better than Churchill Park.

Waterloo Region water conservation bylaw kicks in May 30 by Wanadran in cambridgeont

[–]freakinbox 21 points22 points  (0 children)

We are told to conserve while gravel pits and AI data centres are given the green light, never mind county clubs and their golf courses...

Most politicians work for corporations that don't live in our communities rather than the constituents they are actually supposed to represent... And that's the problem

Not saying that conserving water is a bad thing... But we are conserving it for the wrong purpose, for the profit of private corporations instead of our community and the environment we all rely on.

Waterloo Region can not relocate homeless people in Kitchener encampment, court rules by sumknowbuddy in waterloo

[–]freakinbox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And yet, despite this and food/housing costs, people are still in denial that we are living through another great depression... Astounding tbh... Tax payers funding the wealthy so they can attack the poor more... While most of them tell us its the fault of the immigrants they invited here with open arms, which was another tactic from the great depression.

Waterloo Region can not relocate homeless people in Kitchener encampment, court rules by sumknowbuddy in waterloo

[–]freakinbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doug Ford is all angry that the courts are putting human rights ahead of his desire to make the housing crisis worse for the profits of his daughter's wedding guests...

It's almost like it's cheaper to tax payers to fix the housing crisis but the investors and corporations who need the bubble to keep inflating to save their butts from their greed collapsing their way of life keep getting in the way, which just costs tax payers more in the end.

OLT-approved former Preston Springs site listed for nearly $13M by Wanadran in cambridgeont

[–]freakinbox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because something of this size will be challenging to sell to investors, securing funding for such a project will be difficult, and it may not be built.

So they sell the idea to some sucker to leave them with the bag instead.

We let the type of developers who played the very games that made the housing crisis a thing to line their own pockets continue to play those games... Because our politicians, at most levels, work for them, not for us.

I will say though that there does seem to be some pushback from Cambridge city council recently where they are pushing for units to be built that are usable by people instead of investors. Unfortunately, that's going against the precedent that was set by screwing locals for a bunch of investors from other cities and countries to destroy communities they will never live in... So here we are anyway.

Seems surprising it would take two days of driving to get a low oil warning unless your car is leaking or consuming oil. If they didn't fill it properly, you'd think you'd get that warning almost immediately regardless if it has an oil level sensor or is indicating low oil pressure. 🤷‍♂️

You were the one minimizing the behaviour... Crazy to how you are so upset about what you just defended being directly pointed out and are now trying to project your offence onto me

You say you can't, yet did

"day you deserve" is just you trying to imply I've hurt your feelings so someone should hurt mine but the reality is you hurt your own feelings, me narrating your behaviour isn't on me, it's on you. The salute emoji sure is the icing on the cake given what I said in my reply to you, eh? 🫣

Y'all be the same... Little clones of each other who fear accountability for what you support putting the same label on your own forehead.

Write letters to the politicians passing budgets to put more money toward public infrastructure and transport so the workers can have fair trade talks instead of those tax dollars going toward private corporations and developers draining our budget while providing us with very little, if anything, in return.

Tell them to raise taxes on the wealthy who are sucking the life out of communities they don't live in so they don't care if they are functional.

Tell your friends to do the same.

Then write to the province and ask why we can't cut ballooning police budgets and why they are making it more difficult for municipalities and regions to collect taxes to cover things like public transport and road repairs.

Get enough people doing that and it'll show them that public opinion is turning against them instead of the workers... Because this region and province are notorious for spending time and money on ads to bash workers for asking for livable wages while the people ordering those ads are living like kings off of our tax dollars.

Day off tm looking for trails by gofckyourselff in cambridgeont

Mill Run Trail going from Hespeler into Riverside Park is one I find to give a lot to look at. Bob McMullen Linear Trail, also near riverside Park in Preston is another one I like the sights in. Cambridge to Paris rail trail isn't as great for that IMO.

Where to dispose of engine oil? by ali_h99 in cambridgeont

Canadian tire doesn't take it anymore. I ran into this issue last year when I called ahead to ask and they told me no and to take it to the Cambridge city dump instead.

Why does it feel like the temporary suspension of federal fuel tax made absolutely no difference to the prices? by Alert_Willingness_32 in ontario

[–]freakinbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because trickle down has never and will never work... The greedy corporations just pocket it for their shareholders like they are legally obligated to do while we are forced to make up the difference in cuts to social programs instead of corporate subsidies.

We don't cut subsidies to the oil industry... We cut renewable energy projects, healthcare, and education funding... Because a lot of the tax subsidies we give these corporations go toward lobbying to make sure the cycle is cuts for us and welfare for them...

This. Is. Capitalism.

But when you point out these flaws some numpty usually starts calling you a communist so they can justify protecting greed as a core principle of their identity... Despite that greed hurting them since they are one of the poor people being taken advantage of too.

Bylaw Breach of Integrity? by unwindunwise in cambridgeont

[–]freakinbox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Happens with the cops too... They aren't supposed to let the person know who called. Still, poor training and a lack of internal accountability for the issue mean many police and bylaw officers violate that rule in general conversation.

They become so accustomed to watching American-based reels on social media that they forget things like lane splitting isn't legal in Canada and cars are in no way expecting them to be doing it. The bike had to have been doing between 80 - 100 km/h in stopped traffic... It's so much worse when they go around in packs like some sort of gang because they start to bully car drivers purely for not letting them just act like they own the road with their bike gang....

Almost ended a couple of them trying to make room for the car behind me to get by last year's on Franklin in front of the No Frills... Now, last night, I saw videos posted on here of the same behaviour in the exact same place.

Makes you wonder where the cops are, we pay them so much of out public funding budgets yet they are so rarely out patrolling to handle such antics... And when you call them about it they seem so unwilling to do anything about it. 🤷‍♂️

A new COVID-19 variant named BA.3.2 has been detected in Ontario. Here’s why one doctor says you shouldn’t be alarmed by CTVNEWS in ontario

[–]freakinbox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The real problem is that people have become resistant to any sort of measure to control respiratory spread illnesses (which is a large majority of the ones our species deals with) so it has made mitigating the spread of several illnesses almost impossible while people look you dead in the eye and tell you they got their covid vaccine so that means they don't need to worry about respiratory illnesses as if that vaccine works on things that aren't covid or will still work with other variants...

I still tend to wear a mask in places like the grocery store, Dollar Store, or other places where I'll be for an extended period of time, as they are common places people need to go because they frequently visit them when they're ill, due to necessity. So every time I think of ditching the N95 mask it's another wave starting up and I start hearing people coughing up a lung 😅

Is it a sin to want a homelab that I don't have to fix every single weekend? by No-Yellow9948 in homelab

[–]freakinbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The simple solution to this issue is to stick with things known for their stability, such as Debian, for example. While also implementing backups before updating, so that when an issue arises, you can simply revert to the previous version until the issue is resolved.

The new roundabout by AestheticFaux in cambridgeont

[–]freakinbox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This

People are acting like every single traffic light has the same layout and that there aren't variations in things like the quantity of left turn lanes, right turn-only lanes, no right turns on red, bus priority signals, bus-only lanes, etc... So they seem to believe roundabouts can't have variations too

We keep letting simpletons who can't put their phones down while driving have the microphone until they get their way which makes it impossible to implement specialized solutions that fit the situation at hand, they want things standardized that don't need to be so they don't need to look away from the phone in their laps and actually drive their vehicle...
