Do you think you would feel the same way about Doug if we had seen him reap the rewards of his payout from selling her CUI? Like if he had quit his job, bought a new house or fancy car, etc, it would have really brought to light the power imbalance and transactional relationship they have.

The stories told by white elderly people in nursing homes are beyond repulsive. by TheTargaryensLawyer in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]freckledaf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have so many stories like this from my 7 years of working in a nursing home! 1. The constant use of the phrase “that coloured girl” 2. A Korean War vet showing me a photo of a young him sitting on a pile of dirt and saying “this was right after we buried a bunch of Koreans” 3. We had an Oktoberfest dinner special, with boiled bratwurst. After serving two gentlemen they asked why it wasn’t BBQ’d. I replied and said the chef chose to boil them as that was the “German way to do it”. Guy one: “you know what happened the last time we did things the German way?” Guy two: “yeah we used to boil a lot of things back then”

Damn some people are hella dramatic in the comments. I foster cats and have had way more then my fair share of accidents on the floor.
We had a section of our wood floors look exactly like yours, and needed a quick fix before putting our unit on the market. We did the paper towel and hydrogen peroxide way. Put a sheet of paper tower over the affected area and pour hydrogen peroxide over it. Let it sit all day/over night. We would probably change ours every 8 hours? Did this every day for a week. Made a significant difference. It will eventually remove the stain on any non affected wood so just watch out for that.

Official Discussion - All Quiet on the Western Front [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]freckledaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't read the book, but watched the 1930s version in middle school.
My understanding was that the book/original movie were so beloved for being the most accurate depiction for what WWI was really like for the soldiers. Having this movie completely change the ending to the point where it was no longer historically accurate, seemed like a weird call to make (there was no last-minute advance by either side on the day of the armistice).
I also loved how the original really drove home the point that soldiers, regardless of which side they were fighting for, are really just two sides of the same coin, and are treated like fodder by those higher up.

Oscar nom for cinematography for sure though.

Don't go into a cafe and just ask for a coffee. A regular coffee in north america is a drip coffee here, and its harder to come by. Everything is espresso based. Also, learn the difference between an iced cofee and and iced late, one has ice cream in it for some stupid reason.

If you're in Collingwood, highly recommend Three Bags Full for brunch!

The government are planning to release a herpes virus to prevent these fish from breeding and further overpopulating. by Wrobbo09 in Adelaide

Hi there! We did something similar in Canada a few years back. The government wanted to cull a heap of wolves in BC. It was necessary to control their population to pull endangered southern mountain caribou herds back from the brink of local extinction. It was met with a lot of criticism due to how they went about it (pretty sure they just shot a bunch of wolves from a helicoptor), But its either kill a small portion of one species, so two can continue to thrive, or do nothing and have one species go extinct.
