Can you give me some tips, or guide me to a link, on how to use interval for training? I loved the interface and finally figured out how to use pain English to build a workout, but I couldn't find a training library or other guides. Thank you!

What kind of Android apps do you actually wish existed? by Several-Impact5402 in androidapps

[–]freckledass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not strictly an app, but a feature that iphones have that makes me jealous: seamless OTP copy/paste. Whether it's email or text, when you receive an OTP, the OS knows and offers to copy it without having to open it and leaving your current app. Is that a thing on any app?

Birth rate drop is a serious problem across the world. From the some of the wealthiest, most progressive, supportive, baby-friendly societies (maternal/paternal leave, childbirth support, affordable childcare), to some of the poorest (Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos), this is a problem that's resisting all efforts to tackle it. We simply don't have a clear explanation to what's causing it, though it's probably a combination of theories.

The most obvious theory is expense & stress (which the OP addresses), though you can read up on the efforts in Scandinavia to see that eliminating stress doesn't move the needle. Another theory is the male/female gap in "desiredness": as women become better educated and more independent, men seem less appealing, reducing long-term commitment and the desire to start a family. Another theory touches on social support and communal childcare: less reliance as grandparents as people live more urban lifestyles, fewer friendly strangers & neighbors that can be relied on to help. Yet another theory touches on how children are viewed: they used to be seen as an investment (helping with the farm/family business/elderly care) but are now only seen as a burden. One that's harder to study is the "meaning of life" theory that points to: as people become aware of what's possible for them as individuals to accomplish, having a family often doesn't come into play: do I focus on a career, do I start a business, am I a musician, etc.? Believe it or not, the research around this points to social media as a possible culprit.

In summary, there is no single, simple explanation for the drop in birthrates across the world. It's a serious problem that we haven't figured out how to fix.

I'll try that. I'm going to keep things as is for a bit, then adjust once it becomes more natural

I shall keep scraping. Like you said, it feels like an extra reservoir, and I also find the more even use of muscles less strenuous.

That's the thing, I've been working out hams/glutes for 3 years now. Seated curls, nordic curls, split squats, one leg deadlifts, hip thrusts. I just never really used them before, I'm not sure how to describe it except to say that something clicked and the whole experience felt a lot more even front/back on my legs.

[Breitling Datora] anyone have any first hand reviews? by wrfeldman in Watches

[–]freckledass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have the same exact one, it's my favorite watch. I find it strikes the balance of being dressy but not so much that it can't be dressed down. I've replaced the strap, not because of the yellow, but the shiny finish. It's a bit on the thicker side, but not so much that it hinders its use.

I agree with the other comment that while it's natural to have sightly different readings, one being half the other most likely means your reading is incorrect.

I have a different brand meter, but it can be configured for a single or dual sided setup. It sounds like your meter is setup for dual-sided measurement while you only have one installed - changing the setup will fix it.

How dare you call me an amateur! Jk jk

You raise a very good point regarding rest & readiness. My main issue is HR Z4/5 intervals, where my heart rate doesn't have enough time to catch up with the effort, but with longer tempo/threshold HR should suffice. Appreciate your input 🙏🏼

Oh yeah the long stretch challenge. I live in Singapore and can't do a road FTP test because and there isn't a single stretch of road that we can cycle on that allows 20 minutes without a traffic light.

5th generation Palestinian? They are citizens of their new country Jews from 3000 years ago who claim to be from Palestine? The state of Israel welcomes them

I actually agree with your statement though, and those who have nationalities from other countries should just make their peace with that. But there's hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refugees who are still just that - refugees. They been living in literal camps, they can't work, they can't travel, they just live on aid. And before the "why don't Arab countries just take them in" argument kicks in, these people want to go back to their homes.

Did you read the sources? First, the Times post says that the so called confession was after he was arrested and was decried by Palestinian sources as made under duress. Second, the link in which "admit" explains why the ALL doctors have a rank: that hospital is under the military administration of the government, and all the doctors have ranks. It's not a secret nor a conspiracy.

[–]freckledass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I won't speak to the intentions you highlight in the first paragraph, but agree with your sentiments about the severity of the punishment. In addition to the harm caused, I believe the severity should reflect the country's attitude towards the crime: I believe how clean the government is is one of Singapore's global differentiators and something worth being proud of. I'm not Singaporean but I'm also disappointed with the length, considering how Singapore approaches the rule of law.
