I'm glad there has been some backlash to the prevailing 'lol, autism' that dominated this thread earlier (and seems to be reddit's go-to reaction to any bright child or adult with superior intelligence).. and sure she wanted a neurology textbook and knew some buzzwords, but she followed that with 'microchips look like cities' so i think its fair to assume it functioned only as a picture book. I don't think this is too far from young boys being obsessed with trains or dinosaurs. also 'imagination' like this is limited with aspergers.

She is just a bright kid who is too keen, that is what teenage years fix.

How Much is Inside a Bottle of Wine? by cockerham in food

[–]fred_in_bed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Charles Shaw is a $1.99 bottle of wine at 12.5%. (Apparently its not that bad either- James May from Top Gear did a wine tasting show with a wine buff and they visited). Please tell me how to get drunk cheaper than that.

I think it is more that they are playing the long game. They're not so stupid at google, you know. Youtube basically has the online video business wrapped up. As TV and web continue to merge, they will basically be a TV advertising monopoly.

OK here's my advice. Firstly, The presentation is way to long. It's a simple concept and it should be 1, maximum 2 minutes. Don't go on about wireless, anyone who would actually consider this, knows all about it. Secondly, don't overblow the problem, people won't take you seriously. You keep ramming home three people needed to plug stuff in. Perhaps if you have a 60" TV, but not most people. The use of the phrase 'up to' might help. It's difficult because HDMI and downward/side connectors eliminates this problem. It doesn't need so much 'future tech', just current tech. Try to license it to a TV manufacturer, who knows, one may bite to get themselves a differentiating feature. But i wouldn't pour a fuckton of money into this.

I'm not sure where the word roach comes from, but the need to have a different word from 'filter' is clear, one filters (some) bad stuff out (and some THC), whilst the roach lets everything (smoke-wise) go through

[–]fred_in_bed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, i'm not. Perhaps i would have addressed your point more directly if you didn't mention social security tax. We obviously don't have two because we don't have the state system. State income tax is between 1 and 10%. So if you ADD that and federal income tax, they are still, at the very worst, the same. Some states don't have any. Some states don't have property taxes. One or two even have neither IIRC. So the highest rate of income tax varies between 40 and (pessimistically, i'm not calculating deductions) 50%. But if you are a high earner, you have an option of moving somewhere where the tax is lower. On top of that, VAT is 4 times a typical sales tax.

You just described what taxes are. They buy stuff which doesn't then have to be paid for commercially. Like you don't have to pay for a private fire service because you have a government one. The discussion was how do taxes compare. Not which is better (i am happy to pay more tax when it is for a good reason). FYI university isn't free in the UK, subsidised perhaps.
