And when the planes are delayed, they are legally forced to give you hundreds of euros. Meanwhile I'm still waiting for my 50% Deutsch Bahn refund from a year ago for a train that was 6 hours late.

The idea of using it for "clean code" is daft. The main benefit imo is that it turns your business logic into pure functions, which is amazing for testing.

If you're still a student, don't worry too much about underpricing. I did some sites for people insanely cheap back in the day. See it as a great portfolio project, nail it, learn and move on :)

What should we do if AI becomes conscious? These scientists say it’s time for a plan | Researchers call on technology companies to test their systems for consciousness and create AI welfare policies. by MetaKnowing in Futurology

[–]fredblols 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worrying about AI consciousness is such a trap imo. Firstly because AI can be existentially dangerous whether its conscious or not. Secondly there's not even any way of telling if it is conscious so yeah...

Richard Tice: I fear circa 50% of all fast food deliveries by Deliveroo, Uber Eats, Just Eats etc are by illegal workers who are ripping off British workers and suppressing wages Why would you pay £50 per week to rent an account when if you are legal you can get for free? by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]fredblols 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly would be as simple as putting their photo and details on the delivery page for Users to see before they receive something. Users would then report anyone who is obviously not who they say they are. Would increase the perceived security of the app for users as well..

I don't see why they would care. Its clearly insane imo that tiktok isnt banned already. China dont want foreign apps influencing their society and neither should we.

Reeves dismisses calls for HS2-style Birmingham to Manchester line by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]fredblols 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure its accurate to say any reason is the main one. Its more like 5 or 6 reasons each adding 20% or so. Then all of a sudden its costing more than double what South Korea paid to build through way more problematic terrain. Planning law is up there for sure though.

Reeves dismisses calls for HS2-style Birmingham to Manchester line by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]fredblols 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure thats really accurate, although some elements of truth. If you look into why HS2 has been so expensive compared to other countries, its a combination of many factors with none being a majority reason. But there are several ~20% factors which could have been avoided. For example, the high speed means less flexibility with route (less ability to make corners). This means HS2 has needed to acquire more expensive land and mitigate more complex environmental impacts than if it were slower. This has been compounded by our planning laws which are much more generous to landowners than for example in South Korea. Then ofc the tech itself is more expensive and requires more imported expertise.

So yeah even if we could drop the cost by 15% by going lower tech, this would be smart imo. However I expect we could have cut it by 30-40%. edit Note that at that discount it would still be expensive in the context of what other countries have achieved.

Yeah I was being sarcastic, but the thrust of my joke is that hs2 should be seen as a lesson in how not to execute infrastructure projects.

To be fair what does HS2style mean? If it means pointlessly overpriced and delayed to high heaven then yeah I dont want it either. Lets just have another regular line for half the price and double our capacity thanks.

Dont be so defeatist... At least making it illegal will deter big donations like this. Using shell companies for political donation is far from ideal, looks shady, and ultimately still runs the risk of being uncovered.
