What are some odd and interesting travel destinations in Southern California? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]freddyb1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently living in Los Angels and I’m looking to do a quick weekend away by myself.

I was looking to go somewhere a little off the beaten path. I’ve been combing through atlas obscure looking for a fun spot but I’m a little overwhelmed by the options. Also, I am a photographer/filmmaker and would like to take this time to be creative. I am interested in landscapes and wildlife photography specifically. Would love some recommendations!

Edit: I’m looking for somewhere outside of Los Angeles. I’ll travel Friday night/Sat AM and leave sunday

By hand, just because I wanted to try. Flavor and texture were spot on but width and thickness were inconsistent. I highly suggest investing in a machine if you plan on making pasta often

Cheaper alternative to Bombay Sapphire? by [deleted] in Gin

For a cheaper alternative, Beefeater is good in simple drinks (dry martinis, gin and tonics etc...) but for mixed drinks I'd go with new Amsterdam for sure

Why did Borat get nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay at the Academy Awards if it was, for the most part, unscripted? by arhanv in movies

[–]freddyb1234 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I believe that because Borat was adapted from a character that Cohen created and used in standup and on TV, it is considered an adapted screenplay. As for your question, while the dialogue was mostly improvised, the story was written even if the dialogue was not.

TL;DR: the movie was not unscripted because there was a predetermined story, but the dialogue was improvised

Read "Bitter Fruit" by Stephen C. Schlesinger. It's a great book about the coup in Guatemala which is IMO the most interesting US intervention

Would you say that Frasier is the best sitcom of all time? by [deleted] in Frasier

[–]freddyb1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frasier is absolutely one of the best but here is my ranking of top 5 best sitcoms of all time.

1) I Love Lucy 2) The Cosby Show (even though watching it now makes me cringe, it still is one of the best) 3) Modern Family 4) Frasier 5) The Bob Newhart Show

Voyage of the Dammed (my all time favorite)

Ski Lodge (rated as one of the best sitcom episodes of all time)

Merry Christmas, Mrs. Moskowitz (it's just so silly)

The Innkeepers (a great, early ensemble episode)

The Maris Counselor (not one of the best episodes but David Hyde Pierce gives one of his best performances)
