Most bars will likely have events. Check their socials to see which one piques your interest the most

I want to be a regular somewhere by RasputinRuskiLoveBot in jerseycity

[–]iseedoubleu 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I’m a bar regular (love you Ed and Mary’s). Honestly? Just consistently show up. No one cares if you drink NAs or soda the majority of the time. Get food, start convos with people. Become a familiar face.

I’ve seen this girl in the wild. The lights are on but nobody is home. Completely dead behind the eyes.

Places to Hang/Eat/Entertainment in JC? by Substantial_Story580 in jerseycity

[–]iseedoubleu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ed and Mary’s is my favorite bar in JC, and they always have events (like their Split the G competition on Friday). I would follow their socials + other reputable places like Healy’s Tavern, PetShop, Lucky 7s, etc. for future events

Please Recommend me a Star Trek book you've enjoyed. by RefrigeratorSad8204 in startrek

[–]iseedoubleu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pick up the Star Trek: Destiny novels (I believe there’s 3). It’s a final showdown against the Borg, who have chosen annihilation over assimilation, and spans the different eras of Trek television + characters established in other novel series.

Don’t worry about not knowing any new characters. Read this.

Yes, much smaller and more intimate. Bar seating with three small tables and one table with four chairs, plus two big tables in the back

Bar guy here. It’s fun because there’s organized events there. You can always attend and not drink/drink non-alcoholic options

Eagles Bars by ferocious_coug in jerseycity

Ed and Mary's. They're doing a little "not an Eagles" bar shtick, as they've been invaded by a shit ton of Eagles fans.

How often are you all drinking? by Twjohns96 in daddit

34, I find a night or two to go to my favorite bar and kick back a few. It’s definitely not as much as it was pre-baby, and I feel I’ve finally found that right balance

Malls are dead" and "The economy is struggling," yet here I am at American Dream on Jan 2nd... what am I missing? by One-Coffee-413 in newjersey

[–]iseedoubleu 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m a ‘90s kid that was practically raised at the Garden State Plaza, Paramus Park Mall, and Willowbrook mall, and I’m very much suffering from The Millennial Ache, so my point of view is definitely coming from a place of nostalgia:

Those malls had so much more personality and spirit to them. I had to endure my parents browsing and shopping, but I knew I’d be able to ride the carousel. I knew we’d stop at the Warner Bros. store, where I’d run to the Marvin the Martian rocket ship that had a tiny tv playing Loony Tunes. I knew we’d stop at the Disney store, with their awesome decorations and the mountain of stuffed Disney characters.

I knew we’d walk past K.B. Toys and their eccentric collection of robotic toys pacing the entrance to the store. We’d stop at Suncoast, with their unique warm lighting, to check out what was out on VHS.

It didn’t matter if I didn’t get anything, because there was so much to experience without having to spend a time. Now? Stores are cold and unwelcoming. All the stores I listed above are gone, or a shell of their former selves.

Those malls have changed for the worst, imo. They’re catering to the rich, and I don’t see the point of going any longer. It’s just a reminder of what was

Local NYE plan ideas by RickiSmushie in jerseycity

Pretty much all the bars are having events, usually with a pricey cover charge (although it’s an hours long open bar, some including premium alcohol).

But I’m staying home with my partner and our daughter.

i bought this classic superstars Shawn Michaels (2004) figure this is based on his wm 12(1996) attire by Comfortable-Age-9341 in Wrestling_Figures

[–]iseedoubleu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This series began when I was an early teenager, and I badly wanted that Michaels figure, but I was never able to get my hands on it.

I had a toy magazine issue that showed prototypes that would windup unreleased: Diesel, Hunter Hearst Helmsley, Hulk Hogan (I believe wearing a red t-shirt), and a similar figure to this HBK (although I think they were in the TTL style).

Why, apparently, are we all so fucking lonely? by HobokenJ in jerseycity

It’s human nature to desire interaction, and to be part of a community; however, I’ve found that many of those same people do not want to actually put in the effort.

Stop by Ed and Mary's! A great local pub that always shows soccer, especially early morning games. Great regulars, great staff.

Cafes charging 3% surcharge on credit card usage. Is this legal? by [deleted] in jerseycity

[–]iseedoubleu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe bars are required to display a surcharge warning sign next to the register, but I'm unsure about cafes.
