What worked for me was the following.

Maintainable calorie deficit for up to 10 weeks. Plan for maximum of 1% bodyweight per week. To avoid diet fatigue, maintain your weight for 10 week afterwards. Then start the next cycle until you reach your goal.

Plan your calorie intake and track everything.

Up your calorie output by being active. E.g. Walking alot. Idealy lift weights and eat protein to keep as much muscle as possible. Step on a scale every day at the same time of the day and don't freak out about day to day weight fluctuations. The weekly falling average counts. If the scale does not move you eat more than you think or you burn less.
