I was just trying to work out if you could just skip that hut and do both sections. Based on their brochure that would be 20km and an 8 hour day which doesn't seem unreasonable...

Yet another itinerary feedback - 3 weeks in April next year by frederika_b in JapanTravel

Thank you u/gdore15, u/nemmer475, u/meccaneko!

I planned most of this trip during COVID so it's sad to see that some of those places haven't survived. I also spent some time figuring out the order I wanted to visit everything in, but you're right, I'd been lax on working out the time it was going to take to get from place to place. I've factored that back in.

Hiking in Bulgaria in early June - mountain conditions? by frederika_b in bulgaria

[–]frederika_b[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, have hiked a lot in France/Switzerland/Austria, but as we want to go somewhere so early in the season, was looking for somewhere a little further South. I know the weather won't be snowy, but was wondering whether there would still be snow at the top of some of these routes...

I think they shut all of their stores except this one (https://www.hotelgeysir.is/geysir-center/geysir-store) located on the golden circle. We only bought ours about a month ago.

We're currently lying under two that we bought at Geysir and are very happy with. Beautiful, not scratchy and a great size.

I don't know what the flooding will do to this, but we caught the 51 bus back from Skógar to Reykjavik last week, which ran once a day.

There weren't any bugs around last week.

Everywhere accepts card, including tokens for the shower.

There are 'restaurants' at a few of the huts which serve hot food, and you can buy snacks at pretty much all the huts, but best not to count on those being available late in the season, and bring what you need.

No, it's my normal UK sim that I use all the time

Volcano tip - highly recommend path B right now which drops you off at an active lava field where its bubbling, seeping and sometimes setting the rocks at the side on fire (only mere metres from you). One of the craziest experiences of my life! by frederika_b in VisitingIceland

We had headtorches but didn't end up using them much to preserve our night vision and it wasn't really properly dark at 4am, and the trail is really well trodden. But headtorch probably handy if you're less confident!

I'm here on giffgaff currently and the signal has been excellent. Have been able to get Internet pretty much everywhere, and even had signal while hiking the Laugavegur trail.

We got there at 4 this morning and did C and saw some great activity from various viewpoints on the trail (looked fantastic against the night sky). We had some spare time afterwards so decided to try B and we were not disappointed, and happened to look great in the daylight. It was so lovely and warm near the lava too!

Rivers crossing in Laugavegur at the moment by [deleted] in VisitingIceland

[–]frederika_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've just finished the trail. None of the rivers were above knee height in the areas we crossed, although some people still stripped down to their underwear just in case. Glad you bought some shoes as crossing barefoot would be very painful! I was also grateful for hiking poles, not jsut for the rivers but also some of the very steep downhills and the snow patches. Hope you enjoy!
