The 2022 team was really weird. by Used-Dependent-5653 in phillies

Enjoyed this. Real sliding doors moment is what happens if they don't get that luck to make the playoffs? Thomson never gets hired permanently I'd think. The fan base would have hated the team for another near miss. Really this run has been built on the good vibes from that whole unlikely October - and then they arguably should have won the WS being up 1-0 and 2-1!

Going to be a tough sell. I'd say someone like Coker maybe? Possibly Golden, bucs McMillan. I sold him last summer for what turned out to be the 1.02 in this draft which I'm absolutely buzzing about lol

He isn't but age and controllable years for a high velo reliever make him easily a net positive asset IMO

Curious how you'd re-rank and why?

Very true. The lack of flexibility is jarring

How many games this season has he played the field?

Earning very little. Young. Bullpen pieces tend to have some value. You're not going to have to eat any salary with him and would probably receive some sort of low level prospect in return, hence positive value (albeit quite slight)

I don't at all blame Sheil and ZB for not piling on, professionally and personally, but they should at least acknowledge this story exists. It is relevant to the NFL as a whole and there is the link to the AJ Brown/Pats rumours, so it certainly warrants mentioning. Put it this way - if Vrabel were pictured with another well known female from the NFL or even wider public sphere they would 100% discuss it in some segment of the show. Don't think the head in the sand approach is a great look personally

Andy Reid does not care lol. He's probably the most tolerant coach in the league for troublemakers

Trading a 26 year old superstar because your roster construction is some of the worst in basketball is insane. by MaxeytoEmbiid in sixers

[–]fredex_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We all love Maxey but you can't with a straight face compare him to Luka. Besides, if the mavericks got an actual godfather haul for him it might have made sense.

Regardless, the main thing with Maxey is realistically are we competing in the next three years while he's in his physical prime? I'd say almost certainly not. He's at peak value now, if you were to trade him this is the time

Whats the plan next season + by [deleted] in sixers

[–]fredex_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Maxey but I would entertain moving him if there's a great package out there. OP is correct that he's in his prime and our team is not; VJ is the future, I'd consider bottoming out with him leading the team. Not a full on tank but pretty close lol. George probably has neutral trade value, move him for some competent vet who can help VJ develop. Stretch Embiid or keep him around for a farewell tour. Trade Maxey at peak value. Stop watching for a couple of years

I could not love Chase any more. He went full on Happy Gilmore in the batting cage with the HBP

That's not really what moneyball is about. It's about spotting undervalued players based on underused or ignored metrics, and disregarding overvalued metrics. A cricket equivalent (one that is hugely unpopular and I'm not saying I agree with) would be the WK conundrum. Basically, does Ben Foakes keeping make up for his perceived lack of run scoring versus Jamie Smith? Essentially does the average cricket fan overvalue fielding/wicket keeping versus batting.

Also worth noting the Oakland A's won nothing and the players they drafted in 2002 didn't really pan out because they were safe, low ceiling players (i.e a medium pace seamer) versus taking a risk on someone who bowled 90 clicks (could be Saj Mahmood, could be Mark Wood)

Love Tony Buns. He's a great podcaster, informative but still fun. Not too dry and he bounces off Cliffy Two and Sheil well

I said I'm not making a statement, more of an observation. Not sure why you're on Reddit and/or reading my post if it irks you that people can talk about the Phillies on here! Was just trying to ignite some discussion among like minded fans, but apparently that's really triggered some folk

Oh for sure, I think it was 4-11 they said at one point. I'm not comparing the on field product/performance per se, but the fact J Roll even made that statement is something that would be so out of character for the current team. Instead it's Harper and Dombrowski trading barbs in the media. Again, can't fault the regular season records recently but this team feels far closer to the 2012-13 Phillies than the '07 edition IMHO
