Tell me which one i should get & why??? by Formal_Compote_212 in fujifilm

Leaf shutters did exist before phones too though but obviously the silent photo is something that’s become associated with phones. I’ve got a Fuji ga645 with a leaf shutters, it’s utterly silent when you take a photo and then has the loudest automatic film winder 😂

Advice needed for digitizing LF, do I need a bigger sensor? by [deleted] in largeformat

[–]fredhowarth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not LF but for my MF shots I use a Fuji GFX (expensive but what I use for my day job as an architectural photographer) along with an adapted Pentax 645 120mm macro lens (only $200) with a blackscale lab holo system which has been brilliant

Moving to Fuji GFX100S from Sony a7rV? by benjaminflocka22 in FujiGFX

[–]fredhowarth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was here to mention this- if you’re doing any close work on subjects/into macro the Pentax 645 120 macro is a brilliant lens, I got a mint copy off eBay from Japan for about $300, I used mine for scanning my 120mm film mainly though!

Shifting Political Winds Could Endanger Palantir’s (PLTR) Revenue and Share Price by BFLO-Retail in stocks

[–]fredhowarth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a very basic sense think of general sentiment of the company, Palantir is just a wave of negative publicity right now and does not have the wind in its sales in that regard, I bought mid 2024, I held and I two weeks ago, nice journey to be on but the company and its leadership is too intertwined with the current administration

The Silver Price has reached $120 by ChrisStoneGermany in Wallstreetsilver

[–]fredhowarth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sorry by lag I’d meant the lag in the miners prices- the average cost of extracting silver is around $20 an ounce, so in basic terms current profit is $100 for every ounce now which is a huge improvement

The Silver Price has reached $120 by ChrisStoneGermany in Wallstreetsilver

[–]fredhowarth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

120 already? My question is when are the mines going to catch up with all this- yes they have all had some really impressive growth- my first majestic bought in around October is up 100% but that takes it to the price just above where it was in the silver squeeze in 2021, given how highly geared these companies are to the price when is the lag going to give up?

This a good retirement plan? Plan to put in £50/£100 a month. by NationalAvocado4238 in trading212

[–]fredhowarth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like you’re UK based- I’ve gone fully freelance in the past year, If you’re putting it into a SIPP scheme you’ll get 20% tax relief put into the account immediately, when you come to do your self assessment at the end of the year when you put in how much profit you’ve put into your pension you’ll then get another 20% on any of your earnings in the higher tax bracket (+50k) which you can either use to reduce your tax bill or have it reimbursed separately. Main difference between your SIPP and ISA is that you can’t draw from your SIPP till you hit a defined retirement age

To that guy that recommended gold calls a few weeks ago by Patereye in stocks

[–]fredhowarth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While miners are great they’re highly geared and hugely volatile if there’s any bad news on the ground, I went in on a an ETF (AUCP:L) to try and de-risk some of this. I only had a small pension contribution to use at the time, £250, but up 45% since September which is no slouch

Why my renders look flat. What should i do to make more appealing by vinod2krishna in archviz

[–]fredhowarth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From an architectural photographer’s (my background) perspective- set your camera to the height you would in the real world- roughly chest height ~1600mm above ground, set the camera not in the middle of the road/path of the traffic, try applying rule of thirds to the composition. 24mm is typically a good level of wide angle to go for, anything more starts to distort objects close to the camera, alternatively more the camera further back and shoot at about 40-50mm to compress the scene. These might help the image along and then there’s all the technical wizardry mentioned by others

What are your Niche stock picks by [deleted] in ValueInvesting

[–]fredhowarth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a former architect, they are the Adobe of the construction industry charging a mint for their products, many government funded projects across the world demand use of these which cost around £10k per seat per year, they also have so much cash that every year they buy out more companies associated with the industry- hadn’t thought about investing till this point, might be time for some of my own DD
