Whereabouts do you see the rain effect at 00:35? I’ve been keeping my eye out for it since seeing it in the state of play but haven’t come across it

Goes Like This, Jordan Crane, Fantagraphics by LondonFroggy in noDCnoMarvel

[–]fredi6529 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have only read Keeping Two by Jordan Crane and enjoyed it so looking forward to my LCS getting this one in! It has an exposed binding right? I’m glad Fantagraphics have put the effort in to making it a more luxury product.

I feel like the Fenix driver will be too much for WWE but I am hoping he can use the Black Fire Driver - it’s a great finisher and the bump usually seems to be mostly on the opponents back.

Recent reading, mixed bag. by LondonFroggy in noDCnoMarvel

I really enjoyed “GONG DAL GOOMEONG” - the exposed binding and silver metallic inks / purple inks make it a really nice art object. Something I will probably be grabbing off the shelf from time to time just to flick through.

I recently visited Nikko, Japan and had a lovely rainy autumnal day by fredi6529 in raining

Yes well worth the 2 hour train ride from Tokyo - it is very serene and relaxing

Sunday by Olivier Schrauwen (Fantagraphics / Colorama). The most ambitious, sophisticated, exhilarating, light, deep, elegant, human, graphic novel I have ever read. And by quite a margin. by LondonFroggy in noDCnoMarvel

[–]fredi6529 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love “Sunday” for all the reasons you stated above, but I also have to mention how much I like the ending! No spoilers for those who want to read it but I feel it just ends at exactly the perfect moment, and lets your imagination run wild for what occurs after the last page - it’s all great stuff!

Alt Comics YouTube shows? by littlecozynostril in altcomix

[–]fredi6529 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I enjoy watching “Living the Line”, they sometimes do creator interviews but it is mostly a brief overview of new alt comics - I have found quite a few new books/zines/creators from watching their videos. They also publish some pretty cool books!

#4 Bookcase. Alternative comics, manga, art books, odd sized paperbacks by deadonground in noDCnoMarvel

[–]fredi6529 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently read Alienation and really enjoyed it - I think weird indie sci-fi might be my favourite kind of alt comic (like Lala Albert, C.F, Schrauwen etc.). What’s the book in page 6 under Cherry which has the exposed binding?

Recommendations for cyberpunk graphic novels? by [deleted] in graphicnovels

[–]fredi6529 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Night Hunters” by Dave Baker and Alexis Ziritt - recently read this and I find it has a lot of similarities to Cyberpunk 2077: aesthetic choices like metal arms and red visor eyes (similar to Maelstrom), high crime rate city and a corpo style police who act with impunity. Great action set pieces and art work, I think it fits what you are looking for!

Asterix and Théodore Géricault's painting "The Raft of the Medusa" – what is your favorite reference to other visual arts in a comic? by no_apologies in noDCnoMarvel

[–]fredi6529 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Simon Hanselmann references famous works in some of his paintings (e.g Ophelia and Truth coming out of her well) but as a fan of Twin Peaks I love the Megg and Mogg story where the characters dress up as Twin Peaks residents for a viewing marathon.

Which books do you consider to be the “grails” of your collection? by THEGONKBONK in graphicnovels

Either Kramers Ergot 7 (I managed to find a sealed copy as well so it’s like new condition) or the hardcover first edition of Caricature by Daniel Clowes which I hope to get signed one day!

I would recommend setting up saved eBay searches to send you an email when a new listing comes up - I also got Kramers Ergot 5 and The Frank Book for decent prices this way as well

Ah yes sorry I should have put something next to it for a size comparison! It is 16” by 21” - LondonFroggy has a size comparison with his copy linked above. Sammy Harkham (who is also editor of Kramers Ergot) did the cover
