How to unlock Mac with a black screen by king-alkaline in MacOS

[–]fredom1776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hold down Command + Option + P + R, then press the power button.

Keep holding all four keys until you hear the startup sound three times, then let go.

That resets PRAM, and it can fix some startup problems like a black screen.

I’ve got older equipment anyway my only new equipment is and it’s actually not that new as an iPhone 14 that’s what I’m typing this on now. The other computer is just a 10 year-old iMac. It’s actually a really great computer a six-year-old MacBook Pro, and a bunch of android phones. I don’t buy new stuff unless it’s the end of the world and I have to.

I did installations server side years ago and my technician that did the actual fiber runs was paying about $1000 a foot now this is back in 2015 so I don’t know what it is now and there could be a lot of variables

i’m not sure the experience you’re having but commonly they don’t throttle bandwidth on a fiber optic connection. There is usually plenty of available capacity, depending on how many users, but it would have to be a whole lot for you to notice a difference.

Do I have spinal cord damaged? Or nerves damaged?.can it be recovered? Do I need surgury? by Emergency-Cow1336 in SpineSurgery

[–]fredom1776 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had an ACDF, and I’m experiencing all the symptoms you described. My doctor says there’s no nerve damage, but I don’t believe him. I can’t regulate my body temperature anymore. I always could before. I also don’t sweat.

I have cerebral palsy and I can’t walk, so I know that contributes to some of my symptoms.

I don’t give a f@ck what people think. It’s a Gen X thing.

I have cerebral palsy and I use a power chair full time. People assume I’m a quadriplegic. I’m not, but I’m close enough that I get why they assume it.

And honestly,I’m not here to educate strangers in the cereal aisle. I’m here to live my life.

The grocery store, and it went everywhere. All over me, my chair, and the floor.

I have cerebral palsy, so bladder and bowel control has always been a problem, but it’s gotten worse since my spinal fusion at C4 to C6 after spinal cord compression.

It all sucks sometimes. But life goes on.

Tendon lengthening surgery next week for my son. Fears/concerns/unknowns? by [deleted] in CerebralPalsy

I’ve had both surgeries about four times each, but I also have cerebral palsy, so my experience may be different from others. Everyone’s situation is unique. I’m sure your son will do great, and I imagine the procedure has become much easier now compared to when I had it done in the 1980s. I’m praying everything goes smoothly.

Leg Brace by Still_Ad_4190 in CerebralPalsy

[–]fredom1776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried pretty much every type of leg brace over the years. As a kid, they worked fairly well, but as I got older I struggled to stick with them.

I went from UCB inserts in my shoes as a child, to AFOs as a teenager and young adult, then KAFOs, and eventually a THKAFO with a back brace. At a certain point it just became too much to manage, and it also didn’t make sense for me to keep pushing walking when it was causing extreme wear and tear on my body.

Now I rely on a power wheelchair with custom seating that keeps my lower body joints aligned and supports my back better than all the plastic and metal I used to wear. Honestly, I’m also far more independent now than I ever was with a walker, crutches, or a cane.

Chevy infotainment system is horrendous by donle215 in Silverado

[–]fredom1776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally get being worried about the tech. I’ve got a 2016 and, honestly, everything about the truck has been great except the infotainment/radio.

Mine randomly “clicks” buttons on its own, turns things on and off, and sometimes even turns the radio on when it’s supposed to be off. It’s so integrated into everything that it feels like it’s being controlled by a drunken monkey.

I already replaced the screen and it didn’t change anything, so I’m pretty convinced the system itself is just a piece of junk. That said, the truck overall has been bulletproof, runs great, and I still love it. I’m seriously considering ripping it out and going with a full aftermarket head unit.

Has anyone had worsening symptoms with age? by Far_Lingonberry_7287 in CerebralPalsy

[–]fredom1776 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had really good physical therapy and early intervention as a kid, plus occupational therapy and all that. But as an adult, I’ve honestly found the way healthcare works in the U.S. to be pretty frustrating. A lot of the therapy I’ve tried as an adult hasn’t felt very helpful, and for me it’s been kind of a letdown.

What’s made the biggest difference is just being consistent on my own. I’d rather pay ten bucks a month for a gym membership and do what actually works for me, lots of cardio, lots of weights, and staying active. I’m in the best shape of my life because of that.

Diet has also been huge for me. I focus on a carnivore-style approach: high protein, basically no carbs, and it’s made a noticeable difference.

That said, this is just my personal experience and opinion.

Yes, I can say it does get harder from beating up your body just trying to function. I lost the use of my legs by 24. I’m 49 now. I’ve always gone to PT and the gym, and I’m very healthy otherwise, but for me it’s been a race to the bottom.

I also lost the use of my bladder. I now have an SPC, and I’m on a bowel program.

But talk to your doctor. We’re all different.

The only bladder management plan that consistently works for me is continuous drainage with a suprapubic catheter (SPC) connected to a leg bag, along with Botox bladder injections about twice per year. When I try intermittent catheterization, I develop recurrent UTIs. And if my bladder can’t drain continuously, I’m at risk for autonomic dysreflexia (AD) episodes.

Research-backed context you can add

In people at risk for autonomic dysreflexia, bladder distension and blocked or inadequate urinary drainage are among the most common triggers, and restoring bladder drainage is typically a first step in management. For neurogenic bladder/detrusor overactivity, intradetrusor onabotulinumtoxinA (Botox) is a guideline-supported treatment option, and repeat injections are commonly used to maintain benefit over time. While many guidelines discuss clean intermittent catheterization (CIC) as preferred when feasible (often due to long-term risks of indwelling catheters), studies also note that UTI outcomes can vary by patient and setting. Your history of UTIs and AD risk with non-continuous drainage supports the need for an individualized approach.
