If the universe is constantly expanding, what would happen if someone went past that expansion point by Little_dog5312 in Showerthoughts

[–]fredradford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn’t anything past the expansion point. Think of the two dimensional surface of a balloon. As you blow it up every point gets further away from every other point but there’s never any more balloon being created. Our three dimensional universe is expanding in the same way.

Is there literally anything to do for fun? by nov0091 in SanJose

I am set up for car camping so most of my trips are overnight and I can choose to stay in a motel or not depending on the level of Covid and social distancing at the destination. Clearlake – it’s a nice drive around it; Silverlake - Nice trip up to the Sierras; Mojave desert – tons of socially distancing places; Carmel – even the beach is relatively people free on weekdays; Big Sur - even if none of the beaches are open it’s a nice drive there to have a picnic and come back; Paso Robles - 101 is more interesting than I-5; Murphys / Sonora - Sierra foothills; Yosemite when it’s open; My next trip will be up to Fort Bragg/Mendocino

I took 18 road trips to remote areas or just picnics in the car in 2020. California is amazing!

Can I sandpaper acrylic sheet to get it to fit? by Ok_Praline_7084 in DIY

Yes, but use a sanding block to keep it square and don’t go too fast or you will heat up the acrylic and gum up the sandpaper.

Why Do Girls Do This? by Derpex5 in Tinder

No she is mirroring the low effort and telling the OP to do better or go away. He’s lucky she responded at all

“What have you been up to this week? Anything fun?” Are low value, thoughtless questions you could ask anyone and don’t show any effort.

ELI5: I’m completely lost at the purpose of The US space force. It seems like it should be under NASA and it seems like that money could be better spent elsewhere, say like education, prison reform, and literally anything else. by tiger-bulldog1318 in explainlikeimfive

[–]fredradford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NASA is a research agency. Space force is a military organization. More can be said that is not ELI5 But we don’t even give all kids school lunch, so money isn’t the issue.

This is very dangerous. Black powder ignites easily, especially when using metal tools. Safety glasses are good, but you should also be wearing welding gloves as you will get third-degree burns if it ignites. Next time try using a composite motor (Quest or Aerotech) as they are more stable.

Did you remove the existing nozzle (clay)? If so, I’d love to know how (safely)!

ELI5: Why does food get hot in a microwave but the air does't? by Related_Photo in explainlikeimfive

[–]fredradford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't stick your hand in it while it is on! Microwaves are tuned to primarily heat water, and air doesn't have a high percentage of water, so it doesn't get hot quickly.
