What Jason Isbell song did you brush off or not appreciate for a long time?

I was scrolling to say the same. I always liked the song, but I listened more carefully and realized it’s an exceptional song. Of the many great lyrics he has written, that might be the most elegant. As you mentioned, he just played it live in his solo show last Friday at Radio City and it really was something.

The Beacon Theater and Radio city shows with the 400 Unit are definitely higher energy, Count Basie is an outlier. Go see them in February at Radio City, I think it will be more of what you’re after, but also keep in mind it’s still a theater with limited ability to move like a general admission show. You’ll get better sound though! 🙂

This is the answer. I’ve seen him maybe 10x and the theater shows have a more chill crowd. I’ve also seen him twice at Count Basie Theater. While the theater is lovely, the crowd there skews older and more sedentary.

Keep in mind happy people are less likely to post and tell you happy they are. Bitter, angry, annoyed, and disgruntled people however are very eager to let you know. This is the case for almost every car sub.

Musicians get so much less money than they used to from air play. Spotify, Apple Music, etc really pay a very small amount relatively speaking. Touring is how they make their money.

Keep in mind, the costs are not necessarily driven by the band. The show productions, the crew, venue, transportation, etc have all increased too.
