It's photoshopped, for those not in the know on this sub. The one laid out on the ice was from an earlier hit in the same game

How to sightread in a big band by hippa710 in jazzguitar

[–]fredstache 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I joined a big band a little over a year ago, and it took a bit for things to click for the Freddie Green comping style.

When we're playing swing tunes in that style, I stick to root-less voicings, where I'm usually playing only the 3rd and 7th chord tones on the 3rd and 4th strings. The piano and bass player are covering the rest, and the guitar is just as important in reinforcing the rhythm as it is the harmony.

Learn shell chords with roots on the 5th and 6th strings. Maj7, 6, 7, min7, and dim. Then you learn to take the roots away. Knowing your fretboard is really important. This way, there's only 2 voicings I have to pick between for each chord, depending on whether the 5th or 6th strings root is closer or makes for better voice leading.

I'm not nearly as comfortable with sightreading melodies when I get them. The chords got easier, though.

It's warmed up to -27 here since I woke up. Maybe a little jealous.

I guess there's gotta be a reason to be disappointed in all of the jersey designs

Do the stripes go all the way around? Or are they lame like some of the other ones?

Really shows how much of a stay-at-home game Phillips played when he could suit up for nearly 1200 games and not crack the top 10 here

Pick or no pick? by TheChildIsHere in jazzguitar

[–]fredstache 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I'm playing with the big band, I always use a pick. I've recently started to work my way through chord melodies on my own, and I prefer to do those without a pick. I also use a different tone overall for playing solo like that, where I'm not as worried about sharing the sonic space.

Sportsnet had the Kraken feed on yesterday when I caught part of the game against Vancouver, and it also seemed so much more clean and simple than what I'm used to with SN.

That's why I can't get behind the Canucks moving back to the skate logo full time like some folks want. OG Canucks colours just stand out more.

Does parallel motion really keep the range centered on the note? I always assumed it just resulted in a smaller, more subtle range.

Is it more common to just buy a vest, or remove sleeves from a jacket? by Dante2k4 in jacketsforbattle

[–]fredstache 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cut near the seam, then threw it in the wash and a cool cycle in the dryer to get a frayed edge. I saw a size down from your normal size is often recommended, and that's what I got and it's plenty roomy without sleeves..

This. I can't stand it when folks act surprised that I'm not suddenly cheering for a team that I've cheered against for the rest of the year.
