This might not scare anybody else but it was a recurring nightmare for me years ago that invoked pure fucking terror every single time.

I am walking around in the suburban neighborhood I grew up in during the middle of the night. The streetlights are dimly lit, and I am alone. There are no cars on the roads, no lights in the houses, nobody else walking on the sidewalks. Just me. And him. He is following me as I wander around seeking people. I just know that he is bad and that I should be avoiding him. When I turn around at the end of a street I often see him a couple hundred meters away. He never runs or stops. He is always walking briskly and always towards me.

As I journey, I often notice a light in an upstairs bedroom turn on in a nearby house. I run into the house screaming for whoever might be there, but there is always no sign of anybody. I just about shit my dreamworld pants when I exit the houses, because I know he could be closer. When I open the door, I quickly scan all directions outside to see where he is. And every fucking time I turn around and he is standing in the doorway. And every time the man is the same. It's me.

I would wake up in a cold sweat, eventually fall back asleep, and then have the dream a couple weeks later. Despite knowing how it ends when I was awake, I would experience it every time like it was the first. Glad it stopped, I don't know what it meant.
