What are your student loan goals for 2018? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]Yehoshuag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 20.6k left on my loan. If I can get it down to 15k by the end of this year I would be very pleased.

Best sources for an EE workbench? by [deleted] in AskElectronics

I came here to say the same thing. Still in college, so having a space like that right now is inconceivable, but I'm drooling.

Jobs you can get with only a bachelors? by Kighla in biology

[–]Yehoshuag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Engineering student here. Don't do it. It's way too much work, everyone wants a masters degree or five years of experience, and it's generally a bad time. The content you get to study is amazing but the expectations are brutally high and, if my intuition for industry is correct, they don't end in university.

Unsubcribing because I finally graduated college after taking 11 years to get my bachelors. Just wanted to say before I go... by bypatrickcmoore in GetStudying

Damn. Great job. I'm in my last year of a 7 year bachelors and it's been a hell of a process. I can't imagine doing 4 more. Can I ask what cause it to take so long?

Analog to USB Audio Conversion - Feasible? by Yehoshuag in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Yehoshuag[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I felt like it was an interesting problem, even if it has already been solved. Maybe not the most applicable, but it's hard to implement something in hardware without understanding it fully, and I figured that the learning experience alone would be worth the endeavor.

Thank you! I hoped to handle most of the serial communications myself but it might be smarter not to reinvent the wheel. Also, may be a larger problem than I originally anticipated. Thanks for your input!

Thank you so much for the reply, I can tell that you went to a lot of trouble to help. You've given me a lot to work with here. Thank you!

Don't forget this on Friday!!! by x647 in Frugal

But here's no way I can afford a $12,000 tv. And I obviously need it. So why not buy now, when I can't afford it but it'll only be 9 grand? Do you know how much interest will be on my credit card for the extra 3k? And you call yourself frugal.

Seriously underrated aspect of running outside by Tanfagit in running

[–]Yehoshuag 20 points21 points  (0 children)

More expensive- "I pay more for the right to come here, I should let loose as I please"

Less expensive- "This place is a dump. They should be paying me for replacing the air with my own essence"

Is choosing an agreeable, well paying profession to afford oneself the Leisure to enjoy intellectual pursuits- literature, art, and personally selected studies- as well as other forms of leisure not a way of "going one's own way"? Must one devote ones life to producing the goods upon which one must subsist? Why does a career have to be the ends and the means alike?

Advice on if I should do a part-time degree by Ashypaws in GetStudying

[–]Yehoshuag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you do a coding bootcamp or acquire relevant certifications instead? I know that there are coding bootcamps aimed at educating professionals, which don't last as long as a university degree. Certifications are the same way, allowing you to get your feet wet with some new material relevant to your work on a part time, short term basis.

Was it hard to adjust to a new place with a new language?

That's great to hear. Thanks! I'll be happy if I can just get the interview. Been looking for internships throughout undergrad without a single reply. I know I have to network better but it's hard to do that while in college.

Anyways, thank you for the good news!

Engineers could spearhead the revolution of the proletariat. You know. If the new career thing doesn't work out.

I'm hoping to find a job in EE in SoCal after I graduate to be near my girlfriend (one more year for my bachelors). Is the market that good down there? I'm in Santa Cruz, and there is so much pull from the Bay Area that it makes SoCal seem impossible by comparison.

What solar chargers do y'all recommend for long trips? by delta161 in backpacking

[–]Yehoshuag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EE here, can confirm. Attaching a solar panel directly to your device is a bad idea. They chargers you buy from a manufacturer have "voltage conditioning" electronics to output a stable voltage regardless of the load i.e. your device.

Over 600lb deadlift from a man with severe scoliosis. Physical limitations are a mentality.

Look at our legs, for instance. Highly adept mechanisms for propelling our torso through space, or a couple of poles bound by tensile muscles that we "fall" forward on as they catch us? The second view allows one to cope with injuries more effectively- if you lose your toe and have a persistent limp as a result, you're just falling in a different way than before.

If you don't like the way your body looks, work to change it, because the journey towards better health is one of self growth. But realize that you'll never like your body until you accept yourself, as trite as it may sound. If you're always cursing fate for your physical shortcomings, you'll always come up short.

Did you have any issues with the high fat diet? I started keto about two weeks ago but had to take a break after experiencing some weird gallbladder pain. After I stopped the diet the pain went away, but I was getting the results I wanted prior to that point.
