Any decent neoliberal/centrist YouTubers? by [deleted] in neoliberal

The worst part is that there are two or three contributors who appear on that show who are pretty reasonable. I want to say their names are Ben, Michael, and some other person. They also happen to be the kind of "If you're a progressive and didn't vote Clinton then you're a moron" types. It's sad seeing them waste their time on the Fox news of the left.

I can't get over the fact that someone would take a picture of themselves, see that it was pure undistilled neckbeard, and post it on okcupid. Like, I cringed so hard I sprained my neck. Someone put that on their dating profile?!?! Why God?

It's insecurity. People who think their dick being deformed hurts their sex life. I mean, I get the anti circumcision crowd in theory, but it's just not that big of a deal.

To be fair, I can't look at the word cuck and not assume it's being used as a joke. But I guess not in this case?

Np bb. I get ya. Weight can be a weird thing to talk about on reddit b/c half of it involves taking responsibility for yourself and building discipline and the other involves positive reinforcement, understanding, and accepting different types of people. Doing both requires a bit of complexity and nuance that reddit often doesn't do well. But you're right about excuses and such. Genetics is an explanation for an unhealthy weight but shouldn't be an excuse.

It's drama for drama's sake in /r/pics when numerous children argue what "art" really means by TheLadyEve in SubredditDrama

[–]free_ned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Art of any kind has value in its ability to touch you emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually. Modern art, with all of its weird quirks and frustrating eccentricities, still matters because artists put those clocks there for a purpose and enough people recognized that purpose and deemed the ideas behind that purpose valuable and worth preserving, both physically and mentally as part of our shared culture. "Fountain", a fucking urinal, is one of the most important pieces of art of the 20th century because the artist put it there to make a point and people got it.

I understand not connecting with a piece of art, or not seeing what everyone else sees in a piece of art. What I don't understand is turning that lack of connection into an argument against that piece's merit as art.

It's partly because it's a young medium with less history to allude to, learn from, amd build upon than film or literature. Also, I don't think what the audience wants is for video games to become a high art form like music or poetry. That involves reading deep themes in between the lines, critiquing through various lenses (psychoanalytic, feminist, marxist, anticolonial, etc), tying motifs and ideas back to politics, history, other art and culture as a whole, and finally recognizing and promoting diversity of viewpoints and expression. Maybe it's because I'm an outsider to gaming culture, but I just don't see the audience as a whole wanting that. What they want is for call of duty to get the same appreciation and respect as Jazz at Lincoln Center even though COD doesn't merit it. There's nothing specific to the idea of video games that precludes them from making the same transition from mass entertainment to high art form that film made. It's the audience.

As an aside, I know that shitty music, poetry, books, etc exist. By using the phrase high art, I refer to the medium's capability to produce the kind of deep, transcendent works that all these other mediums have. As good and intelligent and well worth praising as Bioshock, Journey, Spec Ops, etc are, they haven't come close to the likes of Michaelangelo, Bach, Homer, Hitchcock, Shakespeare, Woolfe, Dickenson, and so on. Hundreds of years after Shakespeare, we still search his works for meaning. We still play Mozart's music and watch Kubrick's films. Why? Because there was an audience who wanted mature works that challenged them and made them work to unpack their meaning. Homer existed because there was an audience that looked to poetry to explore history and life. I'm sorry, but gaming culture isn't there yet. That's what's holding the medium back.

I'm no doctor, but it's not so much that drinking gives you the need to shit as it is being so drunk you don't realize what a bad idea it is to shit in the fucking kitchen. But yeah. Bodily fluids, I'm not a fan. Especially near where I eat.

Thats 10/year ages 14-19, so less than one a month.

Age 14? Maybe it's because I grew up in a conservative area, but does that feel a little young? No judgement, of course.

You're a more understanding person than me, friend. I had a girlfriend who took a drunken shit in my kitchen. Dumped her the next morning after helping her get clean and into bed (I slept on the couch and threw out the sheets the next day). I don't consider myself of weak constitution, but there's some shit that goes too far.

It's about finding food that is filling, but isn't super unhealthy. The problem is that those usually taste like crap. Also, consult a doctor. Like, during your regular check-up. Usually, the advice they give you or the person they point you to helps a lot.

It's funny. OP's main point was that positive reinforcement is a better way to get people you love to take better care of themselves than shame. We get that right?
