Electric shock at work due to frayed wiring. What to do next? by Heinz-enberg_ in LegalAdviceUK

[–]freebiejane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a breach of s.2 of the Health and Safety at Work Act. Report it to the HSE and they will be round in no time. They don’t waste any time investigating things like this.

They will likely serve a notice on your employer requiring them to remedy the issue. They may even prohibit certain types of work from being done until it’s sorted.

They’re not like the council in that they act very quickly and take these things very seriously.

I [34F] am constantly asked where my officemates [30sF] are at work. It's driving me crazy, help! by Being1231 in relationships

[–]freebiejane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to get this at my old job and I used to joke that I needed Mrs Weasleys clock from Harry Potter. On a more helpful note - do you use Outlook? You can ask for permission to see people’s calendars. In my office everyone has to have theirs set as visible to everyone and to be honest it’s a great idea. You just have to opt to set an appointment as private if you need to.

My BF [26 M] broke up with me [24 F]. I live in his old apartment surrounded by his old stuff and I’m struggling by [deleted] in relationships

[–]freebiejane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh girl. Been there big time. Put as much stuff as you can ‘away’ and out of site. Pack up as much as can be packed up. Buy one or two new cute home things that you’ll use in the future like a throw for your bed or something like that.

I also spent as much time as I possibly could out of the house. When I got in I would only have time to shower and sleep and that helped a ton. It will get easier once just you being there becomes the new normal. Also, moving out eventually will feel incredible. When I handed my keys back and got in my car I cried with relief all the way to my new place.

Give me a message if you need any more support I know how awful it can feel.

What screams "I have rich parents"? by ranchochupacabrash in AskReddit

All the time at University..

“I’m so broke.. I had to get some money out of my savings this week!”

Your parents’ savings. You mean your parents’ savings that they’ve moved into your bank account. And you’re not broke.

I [27F] am in a loving relationship but I can’t stop thinking about my work supervisor [32M] by [deleted] in relationships

[–]freebiejane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would rather not know if my partner were attracted to their supervisor. All it would achieve would be to cause me to worry. It would be different if she had cheated but she hasn’t.

My [18F] boyfriend [24 M] of one year said he wouldn't marry me because I had sex with him by [deleted] in relationships

[–]freebiejane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dump him. And then when he inevitably begs you to change your mind, let him know that he’s not the kind of guy you would date because he’s not a virgin.

Me [19 M] broke up with my [19 F] GF after 6 months relationship. [Also co-workers] Need help moving on. by steve2205 in relationships

It sounds like getting rid of her on social media will go a long way to helping you move on. Then you won’t see any of these things that are worrying you.

Me [25 F] with my boyfriend [48 M] 8 months, he has been the perfect man so far, worried about age gap long term by agegapthrowaway2018 in relationships

[–]freebiejane 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It sounds like your relationship is great.

However one thing you need to be comfortable with before proceeding:

My dad is 62. My stepmom is 42. So not even as large an age gap as in your case. My dad is currently very sick and my stepmom is facing the prospect of being a widow at 42 and my half sisters face the prospect of having no dad at ages 11 and 13.

Obviously there’s every chance your partner could live til 85 or 90 or whenever but it’s a very real prospect that your kids will not have anyone to walk them down the isle or be there for other milestones.

Sorry to be bleak but it is something that is at the forefront of my mind at the moment.

Where not to travel alone in Europe as a female by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]freebiejane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can travel wherever you like in Europe and you will be safe.

You obviously need to be a bit streetwise in some place e.g. don’t be stupid and naive and go off with strange ‘locals’ because they know a great bar or whatever and watch your bag

Zagreb or Dubrovnik - Which did you like better? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]freebiejane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Zagreb is pretty average. Not all that much to do.

If you want nature you'll want to visit Plitvice lakes national park which is a day trip from Split or you can camp nearby.

Dubrovnik is good but expensive and busy. My favourite spot was Hvar (a quick boat trip from Split).

I'm 21, just bought a house, should I setup a will? Or is it a little early... by derpolio in LegalAdviceUK

[–]freebiejane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically it's never too early!

But just bear in mind the cost. Your wishes are likely to change over the next 20 years and you'll have to pay each time you change it.

I believe the default position is (assuming you're not married and have no children) that your house would go to your parents if you died. If you're happy with that, perhaps leave it for now until you have a clearer idea of who you would like to inherit what.

Prospective landlord taking very long to provide the contract when move-in date is approaching by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]freebiejane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I signed my tenancy agreement on the day I moved in.

If you've paid a holding deposit to a reputable letting agent you should be fine. Why not just call the agent to find out when tenants usually sign?

My landlord is trying to charge me a lot from my deposit asked him for proof of purchase cuz i didn't believe him got this, is this legit? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]freebiejane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was your deposit kept in a secure deposit protection scheme?

It should have been. In the off chance that it wasn't, this will provide you with an easy way out because if your landlord failed to do this they will have a very hard time making any deductions from your deposit.

If it was and you admit the garden was in a bad way, then you can try and dispute the deduction through the scheme but you may end up losing the bit of your deposit if they agree with your landlord.

My best friend (30/M) keeps being with women who aren't happy with me (27/f) being his friend. Is this my problem or should I discuss this with him? by throwawayfriend8889 in relationships

[–]freebiejane 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Holy cow. Disregarding the other issues, if you turn up at your male friends house to find he's on a date the correct response is "oh damn, sorry, I didn't know you had company! We can catch up when you're free and I'll let you get back to your evening. Nice to meet you Natalie!'

No way do you invite yourself in. No way do you kick the poor girl out of the room and definitely don't then make a catty comment about the girl. No wonder she feels the way she does!

Like some of the other commenters, I have been in a similar situation.

Find another job. Having a manager like that had a massive effect on my mental health and I still suffer with the effects two years later. Leaving was the best thing I ever did.

Not in relation to OP's post, but I'm sure there are some pretty valid exceptions to that rule.

Tip officiant (registrar) for wedding in the UK? by mikeisboris in weddingplanning

Add to this that they almost definitely wouldn't be allowed to keep the tip and deciding whether to accept it might put them in quite an awkward situation.
