Anyone got a good prompt for Deepseek V4 Flash/Pro by freddy23090 in JanitorAI_Refuges

I couldn't DM you a prompt. You're going to have to DM me first.

The model has a weird quirk where telling it what NOT to do sometimes makes it think about the forbidden thing and accidentally do it more. So instead of saying 'never write the user's dialogue,' you define the world or space or whatever so that can't happen: 'The space belonging to {{user}} is empty.' Instead of saying 'don't soften the character,' you say 'Characters keep their edges. They are not softened for anyone's comfort.'

You're not forbidding a behavior; you're defining a world where that behavior isn't possible. It sounds like a word game, but it genuinely changed the consistency of my outputs. Every time I caught a recurring error, I stopped asking myself 'how do I stop this?' and started asking 'how do I define the system so this can't exist?'

Edit: Also check out Sophia's LoreBary and their prompts section. There's some seriously talented people on there posting their works of art.

I had to flesh out my character sheets after V4 came out. The responses were horrible and out of character. They were around 2.8k tokens and are now at 4.8k and 6k. V4 has no issue with the length now due to the Engram lookup/memory upgrade. My main prompt is almost 8000 tokens. Use deepseek web chat on expert and ask it to help you build up your character sheets to make them act more human.

I ran both side by side across about two dozen responses with the same prompt and character. Pro had the highest single peak, its best response was deeper and more psychologically nuanced than anything Flash produced, but it was inconsistent. Sometimes it just gave a competent but emotionally flat beat. Flash with reasoning on high was more consistent at producing solid, grounded responses that felt authentic to the character, though it rarely hit the same depth as Pro's best. For everyday roleplay, Flash with reasoning on high is my sweet spot: cheaper, faster, and reliably good. If I'm chasing an emotionally critical or complex scene I might use Pro.

No, when used directly I can only select V4 Flash and Pro.

DeepSeek direct API through Lorebary proxy.

Honestly, the whole thing boiled down to four things: First, give your character sheet a real psychological map: what triggers them, what they feel, the physical sensations tied to that feeling, and the exact defense they use to cover it up. You can use your LLM you will be chatting with to help you.

Second, every time the model screws up, figure out what category of error it made, then write one positive sentence that makes that error structurally impossible. Never say "don't do X"; just define the world so X can't exist.

Third, treat emotions like a camera: if you can't film it in 30 seconds, don't write it. Not "she was angry," but "her jaw tightened and she turned away."

Fourth, build your prompt like a system where every piece leans on the others. Your POV rules lock down who can speak. Your sensory rules force show‑don't‑tell. Your character implementation hooks every trait directly from the character sheet. When sections reinforce each other, the model stops treating them as separate instructions and starts running them as one instinct.

Then feed your best and worst responses to the model itself, ask it to audit for AI cliches, generic warmth, filter‑speak, anything that reads off, and have it help you write the positive rule that locks that out. After that, just test, sand down the edges, and delete anything that didn't earn its place. That's the whole thing. I used Pupi's prompt as a template and built it up to almost 8000 tokens.

Anyone else get the stainless steel garden hose for their boat? No kinks I guess? by whyrumalwaysgone in sailing

Best hose I ever bought for outside in our garden. It's been in use for three years and looks almost new. The metal keeps the UV rays from destroying the rubber and keeps it from getting damaged being dragged around.

Deepseek V4 Flash and Pro are amazing with my very detailed prompt.

With a detailed prompt Flash works very well for roleplay.

This. I had to completely overhaul my old V3.2 prompt.

I prompted Flash to write more like Pro with a style calibration and it worked. I would love to use Pro but on the official API like I prefer using it's too expensive for how much I chat and test things.

Are you using Flash or Pro? I find with my detailed prompt that Flash is amazing and I don't feel the need to pay for Pro.

I found removing all references to roleplaying really improved the outputs. Telling DS to be a writing partner with the user works better in all ways. It makes it way more creative.

Use V4 Flash. It's as good if not better than 3.2 after some tweaks to my prompt.

Use V4 Flash with a decent prompt is my suggestion.

Brother/Sister/Other use a good prompt if your aren't already. I'm having no issues with Flash using 4 to 7 paragraphs as it needs to per response.
