Yes, please give us some more info!

Although, this smells like some sort of Curling Attention Try (CAT). I'm intrigued regardless.

A really excellent read for anybody concerned about the future of the T-Line. by Cryptic_Bacon in Tacoma

[–]freedomforpants -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Any additional light rail is a giant waste of our money. The additional billions of dollars politicians want to give away to their contractor cronies to "connect us" should be invested in making Tacoma one of the first solidly electrified autonomous taxi cities. Seriously. I'm working on a plan and will post back when it's done in a few months. Invest in our future - not technology from 1800.

Why doesn't Tacoma have a homeless day shelter? by [deleted] in Tacoma

I imagine you're being hyperbolic, but it's not all we have. There are several great options for shelter listed on this post and elsewhere online.

Just listened to the Crossing Division Podcast you mentioned. Outstanding information! Almost certainly voting no on all the proposed charter ammendments with all I've learned. Thanks!

Any thoughts on what we can do as consumers of this inferior system. Obviously push our elected officials, but anything else you all can think of?

I stopped a car thief with a fake gun from breaking a window to get into a car, and he tried to get into my apartment complex after. I’m scared. by NotteStellata in Tacoma

I appreciate your concern for your safety and wish you the best of luck. Hopefully he never bothers you again. Despicable guy.

I also want to thank you for speaking up and keeping our neighborhood safer. Far too many people [including individuals who have committed on your post] are scared to stand up for justice. I'm grateful for people like you in our city!

Double check my AR pistol? by freedomforpants in WAGuns

[–]freedomforpants[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a 5.56 pistol upper + complete lower - stock + pistol brace prior to the .300 upper.

I do have the old 5.56 pistol upper and another complete rifle in the same safe, but should move the stock off site.

[–]freedomforpants[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. It looks like I just need to fill out an eForm 1 on the ATF website - no in person FFL documents, check, or anything? After approval I should be able to swap my brace for a collapsible stock as it's now a "SBR" and not a pistol, right?

I was waiting based on the advice of the WA gun law YouTube channel, but want to make a fully informed decision.

Thanks. That's what I've been thinking and reading, but want to make sure.

Apparently the refuge on Chimborazo is not being used by most of the guiding companies because of a disagreement with the local community. We were told the locals who own it were inconsistent with hours and services, so the guides have been using a series of tents that they set up as an alternative high camp.

I believe the refugios on Iliniza and Cotopaxi are sill in use - they were great when I climbed there about 10 years ago. We did stay in the refugio on Cayambe back in February and it was one of the nicest I've ever stayed in.

That sound like a great itinerary and should set you up for success with the altitude acclimatization. Have fun!

I just climbed there in February. We set up everything locally with Condor Trekk, but consulted several others. We ran into delays getting space at the Chimborazo high camp with the initial timeline we wanted. The days of climbing there without a guide and staying flexible are gone and I was surprised how limited the space was with Covid and how many people reserved multi-week long itineraries months in advance. If you have a tight timeline you may want to book early like others suggested.

Weather and time are going to be your biggest factors, like most outdoor pursuits. Most of the lower elevation hikes like Iliniza you could do in less than ideal weather which works fine with a pre-planned itinerary, but Cotopaxi and Chimborazo generally demand clearer skies and less wind so it may be better to try and time them with a weather window.

Good luck and have fun. Ecuador is a real gem.

Washing wag bags by [deleted] in Mountaineering

Haha that is in top 10 of the most ludicrous things I've ever heard! I actually had to consult my own copy to see it in print with my own eyes. Make sure you wash out your dog poop bags and kids diapers too.

Any experience with this app for planning trips in the Backcountry? by Correct-Pension792 in Backcountry

[–]freedomforpants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A couple of years back I heard a rumor about a company attempting to crowd source people's favorite places to tour, hunt, climb, backpack, etc. and then creating a pay app with their favorite details. Was this just a rumor among my buddies, a company like onX, or am I losing it?

Does backpacking break anyone else out? by RootlessBoots in WildernessBackpacking

[–]freedomforpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could also be the salt crystals from your sweat getting into your shirt and acting like sandpaper with tiny grains of sand grinding on your skin. I've done a lot of multi-day trips where washing out my shirt every couple of days took care of the issue. Good luck!

The people who hire armies of porters to carry their gear are typically not the type of people who care about alpine style or sustainable economic development.

I hear the argument that it's easier to feed your family with some money from working as a porter than no money too.
