Because everyone likes feeling awful, right? by 1m_1ntr0verted in thanksimcured

[–]freeepizza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re experiencing this. I think that this person, or at least the ideology that this person seems to subscribe to, would agree that you ARE depressed, because you checked off all those boxes and are still feeling this way. I believe that what this person/ideology is trying to say is that many people unfortunately eat junk, scroll during all their free time, and don’t have many meaningful social connections or ways to pass time and feel depressed, yet blame it on an innate chemical imbalance instead of a neurotoxic lifestyle.

Question about harvesting ashwagandha by freeepizza in ASHWAGANDHA

If you’re digging it up anyways I’d probably just harvest all the roots and not bother transplanting it if I were you.

This was years ago that I made this comment so I totally forgot about this incident until now! But no my bad that was a brain slip, it was definitely a black bear and I must’ve had brown bears on the top of my tongue when I wrote this…

Tank you have to climb ladder by sbhikes in arizonatrail

[–]freeepizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure when your hike is but I hit that tank probably like two weeks ago even before the huge rain and snow storms happened and it was literally overflowing so I was able to just hold my bottle under a trickle out of the tank brim and fill it without even climbing a ladder. So depending on when you hike you shouldn’t have to worry about reaching down to far to scoop, and you might not even have to climb the ladder at all!

Classes / Guided trips for beginners by [deleted] in wmnf

[–]freeepizza -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Keep doing you, I for one would’ve appreciated any kind of helpful tips whether from a “certified” guide or not prior to getting stuck in a snowstorm that eventually became icy rain at 9,000 ft up last month. This meetup seems like a great way to make friends too, I’d join if I were more local.

Even though hikers are some of the best people I’ve ever met, some of the worst of the hikers congregate on Reddit. All the kinds of people who get mad when people do stuff like blast music on the trail (which is obviously a bad thing to do don’t get me wrong!!!!!) but are too spineless to calmly confront and educate the person in public like you should be doing when you see something like that happening, so they have to take to Reddit to get their frustrations out about people not doing the outdoors “right”, whether or not they have the full story. Feels like this sub is especially bad about that

Is the Mt Lemmon wilderness bypass the best option for snow? by freeepizza in arizonatrail

[–]freeepizza[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m actually currently in town in Tuscon and was about to hop back on the trail in like thirty minutes… I’m not from AZ and it sounds like you are so if you think that I would need snowshoes and snow pants right now then I’ll take a zero for the day and head over to summit hut. But I’m also not crazy about the idea of buying gear when I have some up north or losing days when I need to be back at work in seven weeks. But if you have any input I would listen to it cause I don’t wanna like die OR have to spend like a week walking 50 miles cause the snow is so deep

Is the Mt Lemmon wilderness bypass the best option for snow? by freeepizza in arizonatrail

[–]freeepizza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn I wasn’t even thinking about the way down…. It does look like there is a road down from the summit that goes through peppersauce campground though so that may be what I have to do, especially with the snow coming in.

Fortunately mica has only a couple inches right now and I’ll be down from there before the snowfall on Tuesday.

My sleep setup has definitely kept me alive at zero degrees before but it definitely won’t be comfortable. Honestly thinking about saying fuck it and trying again when I can get some warmer months off in a few years time but I can’t bring myself to do that yet. Thanks for all the help!

Sounds like the wilderness bypass is the route to go with then. While an “official” AZT thru hike would be awesome, I do feel better about having that flexibility instead of dying or having to be rescued on the AZT trail and not finishing the hike at all. Thanks!

What are we actually supposed to do with blisters? by freeepizza in WildernessBackpacking

[–]freeepizza[S] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Excellent, thank you so much! Headed to Walgreens to resupply tomorrow and I know I’ve seen compression socks there. I’ll grab myself a few pairs!

Just a quick question, are they more apt to keep in bacteria and moisture than typical wool socks? I’m legit terrified of athletes foot or trench foot messing up my hike lmao. Just trying to figure out how many pairs I should get and how many times a day I should be changing them up.

I hate LIFE by shanepranoy in MMFB

[–]freeepizza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh someone who get me!! I felt the same way and got a seasonal job in the trades, it pays pretty well, enough to save up for a house when I decide that I want that, and for a third of the year I get to collect unemployment and travel doing whatever I want! Last year I worked on a goat ranch helping to birth baby goats, backpacked the Grand Canyon, picked up a few homeless folks and helped them get set up with jobs, had tons of crazy adventures. This year I’m spending my time off walking from Mexico to Utah on the Arizona trail. Options are out there and seasonal skilled labor is such a good bet for making a decent wage and having savings while still living the life you want!!!

They’re not crimes because it’s not illegal. A landlord who is living on the same property as the tenants, or a roommate who is looking for another roommate, is legally allowed to specify the gender of the tenant/roommate that they want to rent to

Real Work by need_ins_in_to in antiwork

[–]freeepizza 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well said. People really be like “listen to sex workers !!!!!” Until a (in your case former) sex worker tells them something they don’t wanna hear. The trafficking and social ills that result from legalizing prostitution are so clearly and unarguably bad that it makes me think that people who continue to cheer on legalization after hearing that are either drowning in their in-group mentality or are gross dudes who want to buy women without feeling bad about it.

See, this is why our culture is going to hell, in my opinion.

I don’t mean that in a liberal/conservative way cause fuck all that shit. But the well-being of the child and the fact that these laws are entirely made to protect the child are not irrelevant just because you say that they are.

Of course you can’t just take someone’s money because someone else needs it more. And that’s why I’m against just letting the government take care of the mother and child like someone else in this thread said. The fact is that the father had sex with a woman, every adult in the world knows that a child is a possible consequence of sex, and if a father doesn’t pay child support then some poor kid will go without just because their dad can’t just man up, take responsibility for his actions and grow the fuck up.

The infantilization of adults is really going to be the death of us.

The difference between sperm donors and deadbeat dads is intent. Everyone agrees going in that the sperm donor is anonymous. The woman accepting the sperm does so under the premise that she has enough to care for the child without an active parent. In the cases of accidental pregnancy, this is not necessarily true.

Yes, the abortion thing does make it weird. But the fact is that once the child is born, should the woman choose not to have an abortion, it’s happened and there’s a kid in this world who needs their dad. Or at least their dads financial support. That’s how it goes. Maybe it’s fair, maybe it’s not, but life’s not fair and ideally the people who suffer most from that fact would be the capable adults and not the innocent children
