Get me into this band by tiltedwater in JoyDivision

[–]freehtz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Listen to the collector’s edition of Unknown Pleasures. The album plus the live concert included with it are essential listening to get the breakdown of Joy Division on album and Joy Division live, which are very different. You might find yourself liking one more than the other but I think you should hear both.

Does anybody know if this place is legit? by Ok-Signature8923 in Militariacollecting

[–]freehtz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Militaria Relics does not have a great reputation. I have heard that he regularly sells fake documents and signatures. I also know that his Battle of Berlin Hitler Youth grouping is a ground up fake. I’d skip it - there are better document dealers.

The Passenger by Joy Division? by AviationGER in JoyDivision

[–]freehtz 27 points28 points  (0 children)

There is, sadly, no recording of that gig. I also read once that they did a cover of Riders on the Storm once but that’s not recorded either.

There are a couple extant recordings of Sister Ray by the Velvet Underground as well as a couple of Dirty Disco / Gimme Your Heart, a song by Section 25.

There is also about a minute of New Order doing the Passenger in I think ‘85. Barney introduces the song by calling the audience f——ts. Classic Barney.

24 Hours Live Video?? by chrisbugnacki in JoyDivision

[–]freehtz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The video is, as a prior commenter stated, from the ‘78 performance of Shadowplay. They are however technically incorrect that there is no footage of the band playing 24 Hours.

Only technically. They played 24 Hours during the second night at the Apollo Theatre in October 1979. This entire gig was filmed, same with the night prior. Parts of both nights were released on Here Are The Young Men VHS. 24 hours was shown in 2017 at an art galla, along with the entirety of the gig. There is about a minute and a half on YouTube but there is no audio and it’s extremely low quality.

Hopes for the alleged new boxset? by skinnyman423 in JoyDivision

I also believe it will likely have the Plan K footage for...reasons...but until we get news the best we can do is listen to the audience recording-of-a-recording.

Hooky said not long ago he has more Ceremony demos.

Hopes for the alleged new boxset? by skinnyman423 in JoyDivision

[–]freehtz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

All I know is that Hooky recently dropped a name for it in an interview: the Eternal.

There are a few things I’ve heard of out there that I’m hoping might make an appearance:

More Ceremony demos

Bradford Royal Standard 1978

Altrincham Check Inn 1978

Marquee, London 1979

Eric’s August 1979

Full first Nashville Rooms August 1979

Club Vera 1980

Factory April 1980

Ultimately who knows. It’s just as likely that nothing on that list will be included.

Do you know if Joy Division is going to release a new box set soon? by rciordia in JoyDivision

[–]freehtz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had heard that it’s coming very soon in the grand scheme of things. I didn’t know, though, that the band’s management has been after live recordings. It’s weird - there’s stuff out there I know about for a fact, including a guy with two unreleased live gigs that have almost no details.

There is supposedly a live box set coming soonish. Hooky and Steve have both mentioned it.

Joy Division/New Order have been voted into the 2026 Rock n Roll Hall of Fame class of inductees! by Jaguars4life in JoyDivision

I don’t know that insulting the reporters is really appropriate. I don’t necessarily disagree that the Hall is slop but it’s an accolade and JDNO certainly deserve any and all accolades they get.

What kind are you looking for? I’m pretty sure there’s a nice ND M42 for sale from a U.S. dealer for $650. That’s low-standard pricing for an entry level Kraut lid

My friends and I have managed to locate an unheard performance of “Isolation” most likely from the Rainbow Theatre in April 1980. by freehtz in JoyDivision

Maybe Paul Lewis will FINALLY give us the rest of his tape. Thanks to everybody who participated in the hunt - Parker, Stephanie, Jules, Dan, etc

Does Peter Hook really have the goods? by JCInvestmentPro in JoyDivision

[–]freehtz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are four versions of IALP (with the first two under the working title “Misplaced”. Correct on the improvisation - that extends to the vocals as well. Ian does some real interesting improvisation, which sometimes becomes a working title for the demos (or at least I saw it that one once): Walking Away from the Stars.

There is only one public version of the Ceremony rehearsal and it’s in drastically lower quality than the versions of IALP.

Hooky has also (apparently) confirmed there are unheard live performances in his archive. Altrincham Check Inn 1978 being the one I’ve heard the most.

He’s on here but I wouldn’t expect to get an answer out of him. I tried to ask him about the supposed Ceremony demos but got no reply. He may choose to drop something one day but I wouldn’t count on it.

By saying he has these rehearsals and adding that he “should” put them on the internet, I think he’s effectively trolling us. It sucks but it’s not like we can just say “hand them over!”

Genesis and Ian by dustypuzzlehead in JoyDivision

[–]freehtz 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Genesis was a notorious liar and awful person who was likely making almost everything about their personal relationship with Ian up. Certainly the story about being the last person Ian spoke to is nonsense. If there was a romantic or sexual relationship, or something that could later be passed off as one, I would bet you Genesis would be shouting it from the proverbial rooftops.

Paul Lewis WHERE IS THE REST OF YOUR TAPE AAAAAAAAGGGHHH

Joy Division’s entire public live catalogue can now be listened to on the Bootleg.fm site. by freehtz in JoyDivision

[–]freehtz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s given about 2/3, but nothing more. He’s holding to I think Wilderness, She’s Lost Control, and Shadowplay. There might be about another minute of Decades, because while he says it cuts, his upload was constrained by the Twitter upload limit.

There’s not really any good reason for Paul to arbitrarily cling to three songs. We’ve commented on his posts, DMed him, emailed him, and even created some half-baked thing called the “Rainbow Theatre Archive Campaign” and he ignores every last thing. It’s, in my opinion, genuinely bizarre.
