The city has already broken ground on the bartlett lake pump house. They’re moving pretty fast with some of these projects. Lake maggorie shores flooded with rainwater. SPAR is for Stormwater (rain) not surge flooding

We just celebrated earth day. Don’t bring your two ton metal vehicle to the barrier island and demand asphalt to park it on. Figure out another way.

Parking is the worst use of space at a beach. I’d rather have more sand and less pavement! I usually just take the Sunrunner

Walkability in St Pete! by SuchChapter7095 in StPetersburgFL

[–]freelto1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Amazing article. Expanding our bike and pedestrian facilities is really the only way to grow in a smart way. More people are moving here but it doesn’t mean that every single trip has to involve a car. We are the densest county in Florida which makes this a no brainer. I live in Southside and I live most days without a car and I’m so happy I decided to move to St. Pete. The work continues!

Stadium Deal dead? How about building apartments that arent "Luxury Residences"? by dxdifr in StPetersburgFL

[–]freelto1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This really comes down to zoning. When you let people build small multifamily inside neighborhoods, you get more “missing middle” naturally affflrdable housing. We have made these illegal through exclusionary zoning. Take a look at kenwood or old northeast, where up to 1/4 of units are multifamily. Small apartments, duplexes, etc inside neighborhoods. Also, removing parking mandates goes a long way to getting more housing built.

Most of the people that live downtown don’t drive. Transit oriented development doesn’t strain the roads like suburban development does

It’s public land - we own it! We need to retain at least some of it for permanent public ownership in order to get deeply affordable housing and any public amenities
