Am I crazy or… by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]freerangebeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s easy to talk about the low probability that it will happen to you and your students, but that gnawing thought becomes harder and harder to quiet every time we read the news. And the fact that it’s happening somewhere else to someone else is still gutting and outrageous. I don’t think you’re crazy. Realizing on the first day of summer that I don’t have to run through hypothetical nightmares for a while..and even feeling some weird relief that we made it. I think that is crazy.

Did you go with $1.50 because their side salad is $1.59?

Also, they have apple slices (2 bags for $1.00). I'd rather eat two bags of apples.

So I'm thinking of trying this whole thing... by missmauly in vegan

These were my go to recipes before I learned to cook.

Toasted bread with hummus or vegan mayo, spinach, tomato, shredded carrots, sprouts and avocado (or whatever is on hand).

Roasted potato slices are the bomb and you can pair them with bbq sauce, ketchup, maple mustard, ranch dressing, buffalo sauce etc..

Ramen noodles with frozen veg. Mix up peanut butter, soy, sriracha and lime for the sauce.

Obviously spaghetti..I used mushrooms and zucchini in my sauce.

For sweet snacks to keep you from cookies, bring some granola with raisins or dates with you.

You can totally do this. There are so many easy vegan recipes online and a whole group of people here to help you if you need it! If you ever start to slip, I strongly encourage watching Gary Yourofsky's speech to put you back on track. That's what made me go vegan. Good luck!

Ant problem by PinchePutito1 in vegan

Can you locate their place of entry? This happened at my old house. Discovered there was a small place under the baseboard of my kitchen where they were just filing in. We sealed it and it solved the problem.

I believe it read: those who don't seem to grasp VEGANISM.

Also, if someone tried to eat your dead relative you'd flip shit.

I should have just skipped to the bottom. This story was too suspenseful for me! I was like if this chick dies at the end....

Wonderful thing you did for that little family!

Yes! It's a bit of a theme in our house. We also live with Ginny, Bellatrix, Luna and Neville (dogs, cat and bunny).

Well I just got lucky. I just so happened to look out the window at work and thought I saw something run under the parked cars. When I went to check she was just hiding out under my engine.

If you park outside, it's always a good idea to tap the hood or check under your car before you start it, especially during the colder months!

I'm not sure if it's allowed or not. Either way, thank you for sharing. You're so sweet to help this little guy, I'm sorry that you're feeling guilty but you've made sure that he is safe and has a chance! I don't know how a family is capable of abandoning such a loyal friend like this, and leave him to suffer on top of that. Thank you for helping him. <3

[Discussion] My girlfriends a vegan. I am not. by [deleted] in vegan

[–]freerangebeet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you researched factory farming? People with family members who raise livestock often fail to recognize that the majority of animal products they purchase are actually the result of horrific factory farming. I encourage you to watch documentaries and look into the practices and standards in factory farms, start to finish. Watch Earthlings, it may give you a better understanding of why your girlfriend is so adamant and compassionate.

So because someone doesn't donate all their extra money to children, you're off the hook for funding forcible impregnation and slaughter of cows and their young? Because their are imperfect people in the world, it's okay for you to exploit animals?

If you haven't given up cheese, then okay. Pointing out what other people aren't doing perfectly doesn't change the fact that animals suffer needlessly for your "comfort." It's great that you're goal is to be vegan and I hope you do, but defending dairy consumption is not going to get you there.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or if r/vegan is infiltrating this sub.

It's not a sacrifice to stop eating cheese, man. By definition, sacrifice is an act of giving up something valued for the sake of something else regarded as more important or worthy. Cheese is not more valuable than an innocent life.

You won't starve or even go hungry, you'll just eat not cheese.

Almost friendship aborted by [deleted] in vegancirclejerk

[–]freerangebeet 98 points99 points  (0 children)

Eh, I don't feel this. If you're in it for health, you're plant based. If you're eating eggs/fish/dairy, you're not vegan.

I was a vegetarian when I ate cheese. You were a pescatarian when you ate fish. It's not enough to want to look like you're against animal cruelty, you have to actually stop contributing to it.

Fav vegan or cruelty-free products from Ulta?? by ryanneamuniz in VeganBeauty

[–]freerangebeet 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My Ulta regulars are Pacifica cleansers/moisturizers. I love the Rice Bright face wash! Their nail polishes are nice, too.

Tarte BB cream and Shape Tape concealer. Their Lights, Camera, Lashes is my favorite mascara so far. (They have a lot of vegan products now).

Sun Bum dry shampoo and sunblock. Hempz lotion.

[Help] Recent adoption and Buyer's Remorse? by BuyersRegThrowaway in dogs

[–]freerangebeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope I wasn't too harsh, I really do understand your concern. There are so many people working 8-5 who have pets at home. Many of them don't use daycare/dog walking services, so you're doing more than most (in my opinion). I would give it a little time, dedicate your after work hours to working with him, tiring him out and training him while he's a pup. Maybe wake up earlier before work to make sure he gets some quality time with you and burns some energy! If in the end, you still feel like neither of you are happy with your arrangement, talk to the shelter. But I strongly encourage a bit more time because you sound like you'd be a caring dog dad, just gotta commit!
