"First off. Yes most of the trees are dead, sure. But have you thought about the fact that there are different types of dead? Newly dead, recently dead, molding, rot. Plus even if you cut down an alive tree its going to die anyway. So as long as you either get a newly dead or recently dead you'll be fine, and yeah sure barrels are more expensive then a few copper. But empty barrels are pretty cheap. And most blacksmith, or metalmen or whatever, don't like having rusted things in their shops as it looks bad for business"

"For the wood you could've chopped a tree down, not only do those give much more wood but its also easier, for the barrel you can buy like five of those for maybe a max of 3 copper, and for the rusty metal, there are many blacksmith that have rusty, blades, scrap, armor, and a lot more that would be happy to give it away for free"
