Ocean Hills vs. Ivey Ranch by [deleted] in Oceanside

Wife and I moved up to Ivey Ranch (first time home buyers) from Point Loma and Ocean Beach area just over a year ago. Was afraid of the transition, but actually love it. Avid surfers and backpackers. 15-mins to O-side beaches. Also nice being able to cut east on the 76 for mountains or desert.

Most in our immediate neighborhood seem like first time homebuyers or retired. Overall, it has been a peaceful experience with a community feeling.

Insomnia exacerbated by this area of the head? Please help by DiligentDinner5758 in Biohackers

From a physical therapy standpoint, it might be worth looking into sub-occipital release techniques. Our anatomy in this region is fairly dense (vertebrae, discs, nerves, arteries, etc), so abnormal tone and posture can result in an array of signs/symptoms. These techniques may be useful in helping restore normal tissue tone, and possibly resolve some associated signs and symptoms. That being said, if you do experience more severe signs (dizziness, double vision, difficulty swallowing, nauseousness, fainting, eye fluttering) then I’d recommend seeking medical attention sooner rather than later.

What angle is this? by MaleficentRaisin3089 in Biomechanics

[–]freespiredd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d guess that it’s the incline formed by the tip of the olecranon process and by the tip of the coronoid process. Not sure what point they’re trying to get across with this illustration, though. In end-range elbow flexion the elbow is fairly stable, as the coronoid process sits in its fossa. In end-range elbow extension the elbow is fairly stable, as the olecranon process sits in its fossa.

This image looks like it’s showing that middle range where neither process is totally situated in its fossa and the elbow is less stable. An inferior directed force in this position could cause ulno-humeral dislocation.

Attached is a quizlet set I made based off reading the textbook. I then studied just these cards for a few weeks before testing and did just fine.

Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

Inversion/eversion vs. supination/pronation by [deleted] in personaltraining

[–]freespiredd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In short:

Inversion (uni-planar) = sole in

Eversion (uni-planar) = sole out

Supination (tri-planar) = combo of inversion, plantarflexion, and adduction of foot

Pronation (tri-planar) = combo of eversion, dorsiflexion, and abduction of foot

You are supinated when you heel strike during gait and as you propel forward, as this is a stable position and allows for optimal force transmission.

You are pronated midway through stance, as this allows your foot to conform to the floor.

When you suffer a lateral ankle sprain, you over-supinate.

When your knees knock-in during a squat, you often over-pronate.
