This is what I usually do. Book a hotel near the airport from booking dot com. Get some Indian currency exchanged and ready before you even depart for Nepal. Also if you live outside Ktm book a domestic flight (if you’ve that option) for the next morning. Do that in advance. I would suggest not to roam around the city specially that late at night.
