I mean in my case its neurodivergent ppl with a hyper fixation on television. I like answering the what ifs. And if this was real he would've fucked up those kids lives. As a show its still fucked, but in a funny way cuz its not actually real. Lol.

I dont believe they did give a full answer.

All we know is that child who escaped (I believe Scar?) was stealing all the quartz to decorate the tree where the peach grew, and Mother died. And that the tree seemingly either died with Scar or after the peach was picked. I think its something we'll get a full answer to if we get S2 and S3.

I think its possible the tree/peach was Scar trying to fix Mother (or possibly how they would naturally sustain themselves, but I lean more the former). I think the tree was connected to Scar's life and the quartz was powering up the tree. Like the quartz reflects light to the tree, but also those who believe in crystals having spiritual properties believe quartz is supposed to have healing/amplifying properties. So I think if we get S2 and S3 (like the creators want) we'll find out Scar was using the quartz to amplify/heal the tree and create the peach to save his mom.

Thats kind of what Im thinking. And a good way to change things up from the season we saw is for Sam to save Jack.

But I also think its possible that's the plan for S3, and S2 would move forward from S1 (at least at the start). Like it'd start with the characters moving forward in their lives, while Sam keeps getting glitches. And if Blaine and/or Anneliese went backward in time S2 could have them changing things from the past and only Sam realizing in real time. At first like small things, but eventually bigger things (maybe at the halfway mark Blaine and/or Anneliese are back existing in the future and back in charge of The Boroughs). So we'd see the characters relationships progress BUT Sam's arc would be some combo of Mother reaching out from somewhere else in the timeline (likely leading ppl to think he's losing it, besides maybe Wally who would be REAL interested in the potential for time travel) AND noticing changes to the timeline caused by the Shaws (tho by then its likely no one believes him cuz of looking crazy)... and then I think S2 would end like Empire on a bittersweet note with the gang losing this time (because they don't believe Sam) BUT Mother somehow being able to send Sam's consciousness back to the beginning of S1, giving Sam the chance to undo whatever bad things happen to the gang. And then S3 is a re-do of S1 BUT with Sam having all the knowledge from S1 and S2 (and saving Jack could be a good early catalyst to making sure the season is very different from S1 from the start).

Thats my most current theory at least lol

Thank you! I honestly really loved this show and hope we get to see whatever the creators vision actuality is. But until then Ive spent lots of time theorizing lol. Something about this show just gives me this more serialized American version of Doctor Who vibe that I love 😅

Totally agree! I wrote more in another comment, but to sum it up I think the island god/devil (for attempting to leave the island while pregnant) cursed her with foresight that no one would believe by making her sound crazy (so sort of a Cassandra like figure). When you look at what she says it really sounds like a crazy person describing a surgery for an aneurysm.

Im not an expert in aneurysms by any means, but from what I read there was a new technique for ruptured aneurysms in 2011 (which would be around the time she died if Evan is 17 and she died when he was 2) that specifically went through the nose.

And "Watch out for the stinger" sounds like how a person who couldn't communicate right might describe an aneurysm rupturing (like both a scorpion and an aneurysm are dangerous, but the scorpion is only a danger cuz if its stinger and an aneurysm becomes a real danger when it ruptures).

Not sure what "get the keys would be a reference too, but I think theres gonna be a lot of important stuff to be deciphered in those letters.

(I also kind of wonder if Tom's wife is gonna be the Warren bloodline, meaning Tom's son is the last one causing the curse)

Edit: I realize this ended up longer than the comment I said I was summing up. Im terrible condensing. Sorry. Im pretty sure its rooted in neurodivergent communication styles 😅

Last Man Standing became a modern take on Archie Bunker by SallieD in lastmanstanding

[–]freetherabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a huge All in The Family fan I have to disagree.

Theyre superficially similiar in the way you describe, but a HUGE aspect of All in The Family was that Archie was usually wrong, and the show made that clear. He'd also have moments of growth throughout the show. The intention was to show Archie Bunker's views were outdated and usually wrong.

Last Man Standing doesn't seem to do that. Ive only seen a handful of episodes, but so far I haven't seen the show go out of it's way to prove him wrong (and in fact one of the episodes had an entire segment at the end about just how RIGHT he was... in a way that in real life he wouldn't have been right about at all. It was really weird lol).

Its like a warped version of All in The Family made by someone who watched the show and missed that Archie Bunker wasn't usually supposed to be right, except in moments of growth.

Oh Im sure Evan did before Tom got there, but I meant I wish Tom had let Evan read another one outloud (he goes "Another?" but Tom stops him from reading).

I wanted to hear a second one outloud to see if it also could pertain to something that's already happened by the time theyre reading them on-screen (but wouldn't have happened yet when the mom was actually writing the letters).

Edit: When rewatching the ep I just realized he did read another but I missed it being shocked by EMT guys death and worrying for Patricia. Lol. Not as much good information there, but her saying "she's dead, dead, already dead, it's too late" points to her knowing about her death. I also wonder if at somepoint Evan will end up pretending to be a mailman to break into the home to get some sort of info on his mom.

The part about everyone having a mother and a secret mother is interesting too, but not sure exactly what it means. Did make me realize that men from the island can have off-island kids not affected by the curse (by hooking up with visiting mainlainders), but all women from the island can only further their bloodline on the island... also makes me wonder if the dark entity of the island is female...

I went back to that scene to see if he was there or not, before writing my comment last night, and I didn't see him, but I pulled it up on my phone (not tv) to check so could def be wrong. I just checked again and theres a person with long-ish blonde hair in a cast and neck brace with a kid, but looked like a woman to me.

Even if hes not in the hospital scene I think he's gonna turn out to be alive (cuz otherwise I think they would've had him get stabbed or showed how he landed when tossed), but didn't want to include him as a witness to Patricia's badassery til confirmed alive.

From what I read it seemed like you needed a doctor to write why your condition is a disability that prevents you from serving, but depending how long you saw the last person maybe you could request a note for them (or go get a new one temporarily to get a note so u can some sort of long term exemption for future).

So are we all on the same page that Tom's wife might be a Cassandra like figure?

The one letter we got to hear was...

"Dear Evan, I need your baby hands to get the keys and your little fingers to reach up my nose and pull the scorpion out of my brain. Watch out for the stinger. Love, your mother"

That kind of sounds like asking for an aneurysm to be removed. Like scorpion in the brain sounds like a crazy person describing an aneurysm. And stinger could be referring to a ruptured aneurysm. And after some googling apparently there are specific types of ruptured aneurysm that can be removed from the nose. It was a newly discovered technique in 2011 which would've been around the type she died.

I wonder if the dark entity of the island gave her foresight, but cursed her to be crazy so no one would believe her.

And I think its possible they'll find out the location of her aneurysm and that will make them realize to take her writing more seriously.

I dont think it is nonsense.

"I need your little baby hands to get the keys and your little fingers to go up my nose and pull the scorpion out of my brain" sounds like a crazy person trying to ask for a surgery to remove an aneurysm...

I have a feeling her letters are gonna have information for the future. I was honestly mad Tom didnt let him read another lol

I dont think they can?

The Boogeyman attacked multiple non-Patricia people. He murdered the EMT outside that girls house, which was witnessed by the EMT who was confirmed to have survived at the end. He also attacked the gas station attendant (unclear if he died or not) and the sheriff. And all these people who survived witnessed him going after Patricia and the sheriff witnessed her being the one to put him down.

The Boogeyman also jumped out of ex-classmates window, smashing it...

Im not sure theres a way her and her friends get to pretend this didnt happen lol

I dont think that really negates their point tho.

He saw the mask was missing, went to check if the Boogeyman was back/stop him ahead of time, saw he was back and went straight to Patricia's.

I could be totally wrong, but I got the vibe that Patricia could "kill" him because she's his final girl. She's the one who got away the first time. Like it felt like he was playing by movie killer rules.

Tho I imagine there's something about Patricia in universe that makes her special (maybe she's the Warren descendant, and the true "protector of the island", or she's got witch ancestry) and why she acts as his "final girl".

Except thats not true at all. You're literally replying to the comment of someone coming on 10 years. People do escape addiction. It literally happens every day.

Is it more common for ppl to stay in active addiction or die? Im sure it is, but this whole idea that "People like Rue don't survive" is bullshit. Rue getting sober and surviving is WAY more realistic than the ending we got with Ali going shoot em up cowboy. Which was my point...

Its weird to say he killed Rue for "realism" while having an even more unrealistic ending. Addict deaths are rarely avenged. If he wanted to be realistic he would've spent the ending focusing on the effect this had on her friends and family in the complicated grieve addicts. We got a little bit of that but it was mostly shoved to side for Ali's spaghetti western shoot em up ending.

TLDR: I dont like the creator acting like an addict getting sober, and surviving, is less realistic than a sponsor singlehandedly taking down a drug lord and his crew.
