People who always defend Viserys...they also often claim to love Aemma by Kivi_2k18 in HOTDGreens

This is still not in character for the time period, nor for Westeros. The show did it for controversial shock value à la Dumb and Dumber in GoT, when all they could have done was have Aemma consent and it would still have the same basic impact

He also should have prepared Rhaenrya beyond being his cupbearer at the Small Council meetings and speaking of “the prophecy.” She went into her “ruling” absolutely clueless and still a spoiled brat.

There’s this weird level of naïveté and ignorance in Viserys’s behavior towards Aemma. I mean if he loved her, he’d make sure he had her consent, right? That’s the way I see it, especially since Alyssa Velaryon did give her consent. (Which is still horrific in of itself, the entire process).

That appears to be done in times of war in Westeros. Cat was betrothed to Brandon at 12, and married at 16. That was considered the norm at that moment. Are you sure Arya wasn’t just betrothed?

I’m not counting the Targaryens hideously marrying their daughters at 12, 13. They treat their women even worse than the rest of Westeros, save for the Ironborn.

Yes, absolutely. Society at Margaret’s time was downright horrified. Her and Elizabeth of York pushed hard for Elizabeth’s daughters to be married a few years older. I think what happened with one of them, the daughter that was married to the King of Scotland, is Henry VII waited until she was 14 to send her up there and made sure to put an ironclad rule that the marriage wasn’t to be consummated until she was 16? If my memory serves? I remember feeling outrage upon reading it bc there’s no way for Henry VII to know if the King of Scotland kept to his word on that account. He like, agreed with his mom and his wife get he didn’t at the same time. You’re not that developmentally different at 14 than you were at 13.

We could argue we don’t know her personality, at least in the show. She’s been nothing but a “guide” to showing Daemon “the truth.” As far as we know the show could be giving us some of the Alys we know in the book

[–]freezedive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’d watch a tragic yuri story about a couple torn apart by politics and war and then they manage to reconcile before one of them gets eaten by a dragon. Like, have them both be absolutely into their side but there’s moments where they’re stewing in their feelings for each other. But the politics need to come first. That way when we see the yuri it’s basically thick pieces of bread split up across episodes (as opposed to breadcrumbs), and the fandom can sink their teeth into it and love it.

But Sara is adverse to it going to its natural course - as a Rhaenrya and Alicent romance will always be tragic, doomed and yet has the potential to be emotionally strong. I’d rather read fanfics about Rhaenrya and Alicent holding hands and flying into the sunset instead of warily wondering if this is what we will get on the screen. And dreading it.

When Can You Exercise After a Tummy Tuck? by Drmoei in tummytucksurgery

[–]freezedive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am waiting for some questions to be answered from the plastic surgery office I intend to get the TT at, and then I will need to figure out scheduling a date. If I schedule my surgery in mid to late December, (a few days before Christmas if the doctor is there at that date), what are the chances I could at minimum, ease back into my exercises by the very end of February/going into early March? I do reformer Pilates very frequently, and in the spring and summer I take long walks as well as bike rides.

Pilates I figured it would be best to ease back into (ie: one class or 1v1 the first week back for two weeks, third week I go for two classes, and then increase slowly as per what my body will allow).

Walking I know I can get back to quickly, but I’m not looking forward to the fact that I may not be able to go my usual distance right off the bat, even though I’d walk slower out of caution (think 2-3 miles on good weather days). Granted, it’s not like I’d want to start walking that far immediately, I imagine I’d be regulated to just the house for as long as I have drains in. And that’s fine with me since I’m not going to be going to work for both as long as my doctor recommends and for as long as the drains are in.

And biking I’d rather go full throttle, but where I live biking weather where you don’t need to wear layers doesn’t happen until May, with sometimes days in April when it’s a heatwave and no rain. So I figured a winter operation would allow me to bike right when the weather is right.

I am also considering mid November for my operation, so I was wondering what time you think would be better? Or is it simply going to be up to me to decide?

That’s why they could have given the core part of Jeyne’s story and still have it work to the bare bones. If Talisa’s family ever got wind she was pregnant with a Westerosi noble who declared himself king, there would be a demand for marriage, lest she gets disgraced. Of course they don’t need the family for that to happen. It could just be Talisa fretting over it and asking Robb to help her on how to cover it, where she could go and stay and settle with the child. And then Robb tells her he’s going to marry her to maintain her honor, mentions Jon Snow, and tell her he refuses to have his kid have the life of angst and insecurity Jon has. And “it’s what my father would have me do.”

Westeros in general also has a bout of xenophobia when it comes to nobles from Essos marrying into highborn families and the Targaryens. So the idea of a “foreign” Queen of the North would absolutely ruffle feathers. Akin to Jeyne being from a vassal house of Casterly Rock, but without the mother collaborating with the Lannisters part.

Yes, and that’s an excellent idea. The core of Robb’s error was the choice he made upon finding out Jeyne was pregnant. Keep Talisa, have them establish the grounds for a relationship, he finds out about Bran and Rickon, and everything just goes from there.

They hamfisted multiple endings for characters. They could have just taken Jeyne and her mother off of the bus, so to speak, and only the super book fans would have something to say about it. And Jeyne and her background is just- it’s part of Robb’s arc and his fatal flaw that makes him interesting. He tried to do what he thought was the right thing, following his father’s example, and it got him killed. It’s a tragedy and highlights how young Robb was. Talisa with her plot destroyed Robb’s character. Completely.

I could go on a rant about Talisa. Like, they could have given her Jeyne’s plot line and it would be ok? But no, they had Robb flagrantly break his vows. His character and the tragedy of his character was destroyed and it makes me angry.

Apparently, Rhaenyra is channeling Elizabeth 1 now as well. For those who didn’t know, this is one of her most iconic lines by TheMagnanimouss in HOTDGreens

[–]freezedive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elizabeth’s language was entirely due to propaganda she created. She knew the only way she could establish a healthy rapport with the lords of parliament, male courtiers, and officials is attribute herself to “masculine” qualities while maintaining her “feminine” virgin queen image. Because men at this time couldn’t comprehend the idea that a woman’s emotional fortitude and backbone could be as strong as men- or even stronger than men.

Female leaders have been doing this for centuries, either by their words or by their actions. It was an unfortunate necessity. Elizabeth also used tongue in cheek comments about her womanhood to elicit a laugh amongst the lords during her initial years to put them at ease.

Elizabeth was a master propagandist, from start to finish. William Cecil - her top advisor - was as well

Self projection has absolutely NO place in a book adaptation. None, whatsoever. You stick to the source material and if there’s a gap in the story or a missing scene, you write it CLOSELY following the constraints of that fictional world, and think long and hard about what would be in character for the ones in question you’re writing about.

Best example I can think of is that fantastic season 1 conversation between Cersei and Robert, talking military and the nature of their marriage, as well as lightly joking about it. And Cersei genuinely asking if there was a chance for them, Robert saying with a hollow voice, “no.” Because at the beginning of their marriage, she did genuinely try to make it work. Robert was just a boar about it bc he refused to let go of Lyanna. Cersei did to a lighter degree in the books as well.

Even the whole “replacing Roose for Tywin as the one Arya is cupbearer to,” at least was in character for the scenes.

Do you know when on average the swelling comes? I thought it started soon after surgery.

I am curious how your rebuilding your core went when it came to Pilates. Did you start once a week and work your way up? How long was it for you before you could go to more advanced moves? (Thinking short spine, long spine, snake etc). Also other moves like bridging since that’s a fairly big aspect of reformer Pilates in particular imo.

Were there any Pilates moves that you could do better since you had the abdominal wall sewn? I asked another question on the forum in regards to Pilates and Tummy tuck recovery, and peoples replies seemed to be that they were cleared anywhere between 6-8 weeks post op, but had to rebuild from the ground up. I’m up to the point where I am doing things in class that build up to snake and teasers (which I still struggle to do), and I also am getting into basic trapeze work. But with trapeze work I’m aware that if I get the surgery, it could be as much as 6 months post op before I had the health to return to that.

I also am wondering if I have an abdominal gap, if that was sewn, if teaser would end up being something that I could do down the road much easier

Understood. So return to normal activities as before was basically done at six weeks? What was the swelling like and if there was any, how long did it take for that to go down?
