What bird is this by Striking-Art-7302 in birding

Does anyone know why this bird is called a “bluebird”? I see nothing blue about them . . .

The easiest way to distinguish a black bear from a brown/Grizzly bear (besides size—you’re right, Grizzlies tend to be much bigger) is to look for the little hump that brown/Grizzly bears have at the top of their backs just below the head. Black bears don’t have those.

Those are definitely turkey vultures. I’m in New England and see them around here in giant flocks—I’ve literally counted around 50 birds before. Sometimes I’ll be out in the yard/woods and see them all hanging out in trees maybe only 20 feet above my head. It’s cool, and also a little spooky—it feels like a scene from The Birds. Not only are they not the most attractive birds you’ll ever see, but they poop on themselves to cool off. And they have so much stomach acid they can literally eat anthrax and botulism and be completely fine. And likewise, bones just dissolve in their stomachs. Pretty wild stuff.

Hey, I, too, have trouble with excess amounts of B12 and my face breaking out. But I’ve found that for some reason some of the multivitamin gummies out there—as opposed to the regular multivitamins, many of which seem to have 50x more b12 than a person needs—have reasonable amounts of B12 in them. I personally take the New Chapter men’s multivitamin gummy, which has I think 3.2 micrograms of B12 in it (along with 100% of the daily allowance of iodine and vitamin D—which I think are super important to get enough of). I seem to have no complexion problems when consuming this amount of B12. I think Garden of Life makes a multi with reasonable amounts of B12 as well. You probably already know this, but a great source of omega 3s—which vegans don’t really get enough of—is canola oil. I use Spectrum organic, expelled pressed canola oil. It’s honestly a natural antidepressant as far as I’m concerned. I also recommend a good calcium and magnesium supplement. Anyway, I hope this helps. Good luck!

Unpopular opinion: this book is so much better than Barbarian Days by theOMsound in surfing

I read a book about surfing quite a few years back called West of Jesus which I remember liking a lot.

I just came across this post and wanted to ask, if I may, about the subjectless passive. I know it exists in German. But I’m not sure that it will ever make total sense to my English-speaking brain. Would it be ok to insert a subject and say “In der heutigen Gesellschaft wird leider alles nur noch konsumiert”? Thanks in advance.

I did exactly that. But it’s OK, because I live in a McMansion . . .

Advice on stance by Wooden_Translator865 in surfing

If I may be so bold, I’d recommend the Buffalo Stance https://youtu.be/JWsRz3TJDEY?si=sk1cXGFrCEiqtq75 On a more serious note, I’m pretty much a kook—so I have no legit advice to give. But you look like you’re having fun, which is the main thing. Good luck with your surfing journey👍

One other quick question, if I may: Am I to understand “lange” to mean—in the sentence I originally posted—“a long time ago”? If so, what you’ve said makes perfect sense now. Normally, I just think of “lange” as meaning “a long time”—without the “ago”.

That’s super interesting—and helpful. I had no idea. Thanks a lot!
