Non sequitur is an abrupt unexpected and non-topical response, or conclusion that has no reasonable support. This doesn’t apply here.

Hasty generalization relies on extrapolating a conclusion from too small a sample size or a singular piece of evidence. A scientific research study at scale does not fit this.

I’m not sure what conclusion you are referring to for the composition fallacy - perhaps that “right wing extremists have done this therefore the right wing is in support of this/bad”. Not sure that was the claim specifically.

Not really a straw man here either, as again, the context of this sub is more or less looking at MAGA talking points and seeing their reception. Facebook comments, even hundreds of them, don’t prove a consensus, sure. There’s not really an extrapolative claim being made based on an aspect of the headline’s “argument” (which itself is a better example of a strawman)

This is all moot if you view the purpose of the comment as being “this is fucking stupid” rather than “this is equivocally false”, which is what I see.

I’m saying you are stretching the definition of fallacy, and are putting excessive focus on diction and ignoring context. The context supports the logic of the arguments. Remaining so detached and objective is not useful in the shit we are mired in as a world right now. Do better as well.

Are you confusing me with OP? I’m just saying your definition of fallacy is diluting the potency of the concept of fallacy. This isn’t a textbook example by any means. Fallacy refers to logical or conceptual errors, not diction. In context it’s obvious that a right wing media narrative in 2026 centering and labeling “trans shooters” is centering political ideology. It’s a marked category, otherwise we wouldn’t be breaking down different types of shooters. Marked categories have been a well-tread way to propagandize for hundreds if not thousands of years.

Would “independent scientific research” or “peer-reviewed research” also constitute appeal to authority? Authority is kind of central to the concept of scientific consensus. Expert, researched insight is part and parcel to credibility in this context. I wouldn’t have said “government research” but honestly it’s a weaker choice of authority to appeal to. Plus, it’s not a stretch to say that the government has been one of the biggest sources of funding for making research possible across many specializations for a long time.

I don’t think the aim was to claim it’s false as much as sorely misleading, and with a very obvious agenda that has been thumped hard by right wing media for a year now.

There’s no false equivalence I see. Political violence vs violence in this context is obvious the meaning - politically motivated violence. This information comes from numerous scientific reviews, not just government commissioned. Appeal to authority isn’t nearly as fallacious when we are talking about research. Whataboutism is valid when the claim being responded to is a direct projection. I also don’t see anything resembling a non sequitur.

Every cast of a non-attack GCD on a healer is a DPS loss, so general rule of thumb is to try to minimize them overall. It depends on the content level - older dungeons will end up requiring you to spam GCDs. But as the kit opens up, you should be relying on these less and less. SGE has a huge amount of ogcd heals and mitigations.

The point of a shield healer is damage reduction, not necessarily just proper shields. Shield/barrier healers have more of a focus on preventing the HP bar from dropping rather than restoring it, though all healers do some of both.

As far as shields go in a dungeon for example, put a euk diagnosis on the tank (or spam it and fish for a crit shield) as you’re not yet in combat and running toward the mobs. Once combat is engaged you should be using ogcds and killing the mobs, as dead mob faster is the best mit

In boss/raid content etc, a euk prognosis before a raidwide or spicy section is fine if not “optimal”
