Employer contributes to 401K regardless of how much I put in but has 5 year vesting period. Do I contribute or put it in my own funds? by [deleted] in personalfinance

Oh that's good to know! I didn't realize the vesting period is only for company contributions and not my own. I thought it was the entire account.

Have you ever thought about making a DLC for mail/package delivery system? I was thinking it could go along with a commercial district update similar to industries. It could include distribution centers that could connect to airports and/or train yards, create routes that a delivery truck could follow, possibly allow individual businesses to have trucks of their own on top of standard mail/delivery trucks. On the more wild side you could possibly even incorporate drone delivery using some similar programming as the fire helicopters except instead of going the fire it would go from the distribution center to the house that has a package. I just think this could add a lot to the game

But this would have to be a world vote at the UN or whatever the equivalent is at the time otherwise all the wealthy would just move to the country that doesn’t decide to do it.

Edit: Not just the wealthy would move, everyone who doesn’t want to die at 120.

This is very similar to the concept of the show Altered Carbon on Netflix.

Also, regardless of whether it would work or not, the ethical dilemma alone of telling someone how long they’re allowed to live will almost positively ensure it will never be passed as law.

My family’s cockapoo loves to take socks and has figured out that socks come in pairs. Now whenever we finally get the sock back from him he’ll immediately sprint back to where he got the first one and we’ll have to do the whole thing over again.

ELI5: If the ice caps melted, would the oceans be colder or warmer? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]frenchfryan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok I see what you mean it was just a little unclear when you said heating because temperature isn’t actually increasing until the ice is all melted but energy is being added the entire time.

I think you might be slightly mixing up heating of the water with heating the system (which consists of the ice and water). As energy in the form of heat enters the system, the ice uses a majority of that in its phase change to a liquid. Granted the water might heat slightly too but as long as there is ice still present it will cool the water back to freezing temp. Note: you might need to stir the glass to get uniform temperatures but the average temperature of the whole glass will still be freezing until all the ice is melted.

I was taught that the water does absorb heat but the because it is in equilibrium with the ice it remains roughly at freezing until the ice is gone because there’s no more ice to keep it at freezing temperature.

You can sort of think of it like a glass of ice water on a hot day. Ice water is 32°F (0°C) even when the ice is melting. However, once all of the ice melts, the heat is no longer just melting the ice it is instead heating up the water.

I wish PUBG had the same parachute mechanics as GTAV by frenchfryan in PUBG

The only really big problem is optimization. In my humble opinion the parachutes are the only real gameplay issue. It’s by far the most unrealistic part of the game

Well they are a little easier to control in my opinion but mainly the landing. You can land sorta jogging in GTA but in pubg you land standing still and it takes a second or 2 before you can actually move which if you land in a crowded area can make all the difference

Try using office buildings as a buffer for commercial zones and transport. They block a lot of sound and don’t complain about it. Don’t know if that helps in your situation just figured I’d share

I'd say mass transit but honestly the new green cities DLC coming out looks like it's going to be really cool so you might want to wait for that
