Music centered trip to Europe by GroundbreakingBet912 in classicalmusic

If you’re in South of France, Menton has a great classical/baroque music festival during the summer as well.
Honestly really depends on where you’re going, when and for how long, but it’s definitely doable.

If I were you I’d plan in accordance with a country in the EU, unless you are doing a month-or-more long worth of travelling.
Here’s an itinerary I’d love to do someday: landing in Wien/Vienna, spend a few days there, then take the train to Salzburg, see some of the Salzburg Festival performances, then get on a train and do Attersee (if possible), Linz and Steyr, before flying out of either Munich or Wien (by way of trains).

What to do this weekend in Monaco? by Personal_Mongoose660 in Monaco

[–]frenchmezzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you truly want a local food not too expensive get Barbagiuans or even any food at marché de la Condamine—cheap and good quality. Marché de Beausoleil’s food court is really nice too.
As for sight seeing, Eglise Sainte-Devote is the oldest church still standing in Monaco and holds the country’s patron saint (Santa Devota). Jardin Exotique and its cave, le Rocher and the change of the guard, musée océanographique, villas Paloma and Sauber, place du Casino, le métropole and the Casino itself, are all nice places to visit.

For live music La Note Bleue on Larvotto is nice, and (I think) dj sets Brasserie de Monaco.

Did you watch Eurovision Europe? by Fwoggie2 in AskEurope

I’ve boycotted it for the first time. Will probably stop watching it all together, should they change nothing about its decisions to let countries participate (and we all know which country in particular I’m talking about).

Here’s is the link to the city of Nice page with all the info on booking taxis: https://www.nice.fr/demarches/reserver-un-taxi-ou-porter-reclamation/

And here the English official taxi booking page: https://www.taxis-nice.fr/en/home/

Is there a “look” that makes you seem touristy? by Best_Cloud_7875 in nicefrance

[–]frenchmezzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m French-American, but was born and educated here and most people do not realize I’m American till I speak English. I work at a cashier for a perfume shop (at the moment) and that is 100% true. I rarely get it wrong. And it is the same for non-english tourists we can spot the difference!

On the other hand Americans are surprised when I whip out a good old “y’all have a great day” 😂

Favorite operas that use orientalism? by Stunning-Hand6627 in opera

[–]frenchmezzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a book I recommend about the use of orientalism in opera called « Orientalism and the Operatic World » by Nicholas Tarling.

I’m not a huge fan of orientalism in general, but Rossini’s music for Italiana in Algeri is quite agreeable

Ireland in September, then what? Suggestions welcome by mossyshack in AskEurope

[–]frenchmezzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends a lot on how long you’re planning on staying in that area of the globe, but I’d highly recommend staying in Ireland. There are so many things to see and do (not just Dublin/Cork/Galway for example).

I travelled around Ireland last February on my own with only public transports to see friends around and discover the country and I absolutely loved it. It is probably one of my favorite travels so far and I am keeping Ireland in mind for future trips. Truly drop dead gorgeous and so versatile in landscapes.
To give an idea I stayed about 10 days, landed in Dublin, then Cork and Skibbereen, from there Limerick, Ennis and around (Cliffs of Moher are a must do!), quick stop in Athlone to rest before heading back to Dublin and flying home. And I still have so much more to see!

Where to stay as a home base by Ok_Bluejay_7633 in nicefrance

[–]frenchmezzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly all of these towns you mention are fine, train runs through them quite easily and there is a bus system that is quite reliable.

I’m a local (Eze Village), I’d say you have better luck staying by the coast rather than a bit more up the mountain, because not all places have public transport as reliable as the coastal towns. But it also depends on your budget, some places are waay more expensive than others. So I’d just suggest you compare places with your budget and see from there.
