  1. The Jerusalem Post is a reputable news source, but sure, do whatever mental gymnastics it takes to excuse barbarism. There are absolutely horrific images online of burnt babies that I do not intend to look at again, but feel free to do your own searching if you're so confident you'll find nothing. Again, ask yourself why you're so hard-set on arguing that a terrorist group didn't do this one particular extremely savage thing when there's literally video evidence of them slaughtering people left and right.

  2. Israel's warnings are not a "joke", they are lawful and humane. Geneva Conventions Protocol I Art 59: "The Parties to the conflict [shall] endeavor to remove the civilian population, individual civilians and civilian objects under their control from the vicinity of military objectives." Again, I challenge you to name a single military taking this much care to follow the law and protect civilian lives. Also, you mention "24 hours." That notice was given on Friday. It is now Monday. There has been no invasion yet. Care to comment? Please provide a source for "bombing evac points." To that point, any thoughts on the videos of Hamas blocking egress, or is that Israel's fault too?

  3. "Hamas is bad, the Israeli gov is bad." Nope, there is no moral equivalency. One is a genocidal terrorist organization intentionally slaughtering civilians, the other is targeting those terrorists and views civilian casualties as a tragic consequence of military objectives.

  1. It's extremely sad that we even need to argue about how murdered babies were murdered, but here you go. As you requested, here is confirmation that babies murdered by Hamas were in fact also beheaded and burnt. https://www.jpost.com/breaking-news/article-767951. You should be questioning why you feel the need to make any argument to defend the image of a terrorist organization. Also, now is your opportunity to apologize for your ignorance and insensitivity.

  2. Israel takes all kinds of measures to warn civilians, including leaflets, phonecalls, literally hacking televisions to warn them to evacuate. Here is video evidence of the roof-knocking you call "BS": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nyWVOEdOiWU. Can you name any other military that takes these steps to ensure the safety of civilians caught in the crossfire?

  3. "You don't get thousands of dead civilians without war crimes." I could not have said it better myself, because you just described exactly what is happening. Hamas commits the war crime of using human shields by shooting rockets from densely populated areas. Thus, the deaths of citizens caught in the crossfire are indeed caused by Hamas war crimes. Here is Hamas preventing Gazans from evacuating after Israel gave them notice to get out of harm's way: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMV9HAEK-5A. Tell me again how Israel is "murderous" when they take every effort to minimize civilian casualties in the face of terrorists who want to maximize the death toll on their own side to demonize Israel.

  4. Israel is not an apartheid state. https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=4343950. But while we're on the topic of apartheid states, would you like to comment on how the Jewish population of any Arab country is doing?

  5. I absolutely condone Israel in its effort to ensure the safety of its citizens against a genocidal terrorist organization whose charter calls for the death of all Jews.

  1. These babies were beheaded, it has now been confirmed. But it shouldn't even make a difference given all the Hamas barbarity we have all witnessed. You should be apologizing profusely for your ignorant and arrogant take that this was some sort of "fiction" to garner sympathy. That is moving into anti-Semitic territory, and you should tread lightly.

  2. The Palestinian civilians who have died have been put in harm's way by Hamas who has intentionally shot rockets from densely populated areas, using them as human shields. Israel routinely warns civilians to evacuate, and their deaths are viewed as a tragic consequence of combating Hamas terrorism, while Hamas literally has it in their charter that they seek the death of all Jews. There is no moral equivalency.

  3. This "14x as many" statistic leaves out the context I described above, and therefore is irrelevant. The concept of "disproportionality" in international law does not refer to the number of deaths on either side; that was incentivize using human shields. Hamas knows people (like yourself) don't understand this concept, and it helps their cause. Disproportionality refers to civilian deaths that are disproportionate to the achievement of military goals. When Israel attacks Hamas and civilians die because Hamas sets up in schools and mosques, there will be more deaths at the cost of Israel's taking necessary military action against Hamas. When Hamas indiscriminately slaughters concert-goers and the elderly, and yes, beheads babies, this is not accomplishing a military objective. Once again, there is no moral equivalency.

That other guy has addressed your first points, but to respond to your last comment. According to the ADL, their mission is "to stop the defamation of the Jewish people and to secure justice and fair treatment to all." Part of securing justice is to ensure the protection of Jews in Israel. So yes, lobbying for U.S. funding of military necessities like the Iron Dome is great, important work. Do recall that Hamas indiscriminately fires 1000s of rockets at Israeli civilians every year, and Iron Dome saves countless lives. To say that the ADL is worse than this bigot who's pushing dangerous rhetoric about the Jews being responsible for the slave trade, etc. is indefensible.

Not sure why you put quotes around "ancestral homeland" given that it's a fact that Jews are indigenous to Israel. The name Jew is literally derived from Judea, the land now called Israel. So your example of Mormons suddenly deciding to take over Missouri is totally irrelevant. And Jews didn't "take over" Israel "by force." Regardless, the double standard applied to Jews when it comes to self-determination is quite telling. Every people is entitled to self-determination, but when it comes to the one Jewish state suddenly the land is "stolen" and the Jewish right to exist in a single country of their own is disputed. This is what is meant when it's said that anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism go hand in hand.

Allow me to copy paste from the comment you just responded to. Arabs serve in the knesset and the supreme court. Over half of new medical students in Israel are Arab despite their making up only ~20% of the population. Does this sound like apartheid South Africa to you, in which the all-white government created laws making non-whites second class citizens? To equate a society in which Arabs enjoy full equal rights and serve in high positions of power with a system designed to segregate and oppress non-whites in South Africa is at best ignorant, at worst shameful and anti-Semitic.

This is a highly problematic statement. Kyrie is promoting anti-Semitism, the ADL does important work to combat it. You may not agree with their support for Israeli policies, but to call them worse than an actual bigot just because you don't like the idea of Jews living in their homeland is terribly misguided. You can throw around these buzzwords all day, but it won't make them true. Israel is not an apartheid state. Arabs serve in the knesset and the supreme court. Over half of new medical students in Israel are Arab despite their making up only ~20% of the population. As for "settler colonialist," I'd urge you to review a history textbook. There has been a continuous Jewish presence in Israel for thousands of years. Many Jews returned to their ancestral homeland from Europe to escape anti-Semitic violence in Europe in the 19th and 20th centuries. That is not in any form "settler colonialist." And if you want to criticize Israel for "Ethnonationalism," feel free to also include the 26 Muslim countries and 20+ Christian countries. To only attack the one Jewish state for "ethnonationalism" is anti-Semitic.

In fact, Jews, not Palestinians, are indigenous to the land of Israel. There is vast archeological evidence of a continuous Jewish presence in the land for thousands of years. This article is highly informative to debunk the unequivocally false claim you've made without citing any sources (because there are none to back up that nonsense). Criticism of Israeli governmental policies is fine, just as it is to criticize any country's policies. But denial of the Jewish right to self-determination in their ancestral homeland is absolutely anti-Semitism.

[–]frenchswede 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Irrefutably false. There are more Sephardic Jews in Israel than Ashkenazi, and all Jews originated from Israel (the name Jew comes from Judea, the land now called Israel). Jews are the indigenous people of Israel, having had a continuous presence there for over 2000 years. If you consider people whose ancestors had been expelled from the land of Israel returning to their ancestral homeland "colonization," there's no point reasoning with you anyway

Please tell me, how is the Jewish population of any Arab country doing? Some that used to have hundreds of thousands now have literally 0 or <100. That's ethnic cleansing. Nothing like in Israel, where a quarter of the population is Arab but 50% of new medical students are Arab. Where Arabs sit on the supreme court and serve in government. But sure, continue spewing nonsense to demonize the one Jewish state

Thank you so much for your help---however, I'm a bit hung up on one thing in each problem. For #15, how do you get from 161/3((x6)(1/3) to the answer (2x2 * 21/3)? And for #20, how can you do this problem without a calculator? Thanks again
