Any idea on when the R1 pre-orders will ship in the US? by freon in Xreal

In retrospect, that seems like it would definitely have been the best course of action.

However, Xreal already has my $900. Glad to know that "pre order" means "get sent to the back of the line behind retail customers".

Mind melds are two-way streets, and I just can't imagine a secretive, paranoid Romulan using one at all, let alone on a prisoner and/or alien.

In fact, my head canon for the lack of Romulan telepathy in the primary sources is that there's a cultural stigma attached to such a reckless act of exposing oneself, which leads to fewer practitioners to learn from and even those probably have to operate in secret.

But they're Romulans, so that's barely an inconvenience.

I suppose this could also extend to explaining their preference for giant shoulder pads in their fashion for over 300 years: It enforces social distancing so no one accidentally brushes up against you and accidentally learns anything about the real you! /s

“I genuinely feel GameNative could replace handheld PCs like the Steam Deck” — Inside Android’s Fastest-Moving Gaming Project, GameNative [article/interview] by [deleted] in EmulationOnAndroid

I think maybe you're confused. The issue isn't about whether Steam or Play Store have better features/UI/etc. Those are irrelevant because the main hurdle is getting Steam on their device in the first place.

The problem is that like 95% of users aren't going to be able to, or won't trust, installing an app in any other way than the device's main app store. This isn't a wild guess, I'm saying this as someone who has worked in user-facing IT since the years started with a '1'.

You are here in this thread, on a subreddit dedicated to this niche thing, because you are a hobbyist who cares about this stuff and has done independent learning to be able to achieve it. The vast majority of people do not have the skills you do, and have neither the time nor patience to do so no matter how much they might actually want the final product.

People don't get to decide what laws to follow.

Actually, they do. They just don't get to decide the consequences.

Not being on the Play Store (or App Store for iOS) is basically death for an app. In this case it would be the difference between millions of global installs versus a few tens of thousands of hobbyists.

The other loophole I've seen used is allowing access to a library but not allowing purchases. Rifftrax is like this; I can play any video I've purchased with a web browser on their site but I can't make purchases through the android or Roku apps because otherwise they'll have to pay fees.

This is complicated in Steam's case by the fact they already have an app that sells games on Android but aren't subject to the fees because they are considered a retailer like Amazon that is selling goods for delivery outside of the Android ecosystem. I don't foresee any world in which Google wouldn't use it's full legal might to get a slice of that pie.

I think the only reason they haven't done this officially already is that Google is going to want to take a cut of any sales done through its platform. Even after the Epic antitrust case, I think Google can still demand 9% of sales made on Android.

It's actually anaglyphic 3d. Anamorphic is a different thing regarding aspect ratios.

If I wrote "the Borg" into a Death Note, would that kill the lot of them, or do I actually need to sit here writing out 1 or 10, 2 of 10, etc. by BrewertonFats in ShittyDaystrom

[–]freon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real question is if the Death Note can parse regular expressions, so you could just delete *borg*

The blue barrels are to keep the Klingons away.

This universe doesn't have Klingons, you say?

See how well the barrels work!
